Hardtop only adds 79 lbs. Mazda is working at cutting 100 to 150 lbs for the next gen while retaining the same power NA.

3300 lbs for an Si!? Depending on the model year the weight can be slightly different, think it was 2877 for 2006MY. Either way it hovers somewhere around there.

As for the FT86 losing to a Mustang... who cares? =P If you want bang for the buck for straightline acceleration, buy like a Pontiac GTO or something, those are dirt cheap used.

bah, who cares about straight line performance, but then again, i drive a 130hp tank lol.

But I love me some twisties, theres nothing like lateral forces when barrelling through turns.

Anything is good for me in terms of power, I'm sure it'll be faster than my current car

I can live with a car thats about 2700. Heck, I live with a car thats 3800 lbs lol! So 2700 car would be very good. I will be waiting for the turbo model (if they make one) and with 2700 lbs, it will be very fast!

I'm sure I'm just being dense but why would the Toyota version be lighter? Why wouldn't they build them on the same line and the cars weigh within 30 kg of one another, much like Dodge/Mitsubishi did during the heyday of their co-branding of cars with each other and Eagle?

I see your point, but you know what's great for powering out of a corner?

Power.

Torque too.

Sure hope Toyota takes that into account.

I think people are having wishfull thinking that somehow the Toyota will be the lighter more performance oriented machine and the Subie will be the more luxurious GT car and thus slightly heavier.

I believe your assumption is more realistic though.

I think Toyota and Subaru will be just a same car with difference badge , so it should have a same weight.
