How deteriorated will it be when someone goes to remove it, and will it still peel off easily even if a sufficient thickness was initially applied? I can tell you I've personally removed plasti dip from cars and even when it was applied in sufficient thickness, it leaves speckles. At a minimum, you're going to have to clay the thing, which I guess you'd be doing every few years anyway, but still.

I just don't trust it and I think it's stupid to take the risk applying it to something that costs you tens of thousands of dollars. I bought my Miata with a really poorly done respray and its a cheap POS anyway. I might end up dipping it because who cares but I wouldn't even think about using that stuff on a $20k plus car with an actual nice paint job.
what kind of questions are those? You are worried about swirls being created by plastidip? How would that be logically possible? Again, it is all about properly applying it...instead of hating and doubting then go learn more about it, there are a lot of resources online...and test it yourself, give a nice dark titanium look to your wheels, black out your logos and grill, etc see how it looks.

I spent around 12 hours peeling plastidip off my FR-S recently, and I had it "professionally" done a year before.

If you really make sure that the car is getting a good thick coat, it actually does come off pretty quickly and easily. If it doesn't, you're in deep s***.

Knowing what I know now, I would only use a common color you don't need to mix as paint protection on an older car whose paint doesn't look too great in the first place. That way you can just touch it up yourself.

They didn't add enough coats it seems. With 6-8 coats it peels off like a banana.

I have seen cars that were half bondo and you would never know it.
I have seen cars that had 8 ounces of bondo that looked like crap.
I have seen completely repainted cars that looked better than brand new.
I have seen completely repainted cars that looked like crap.
I have seen wrapped cars that were spectacular.
I have seen wrapped cars that looked like crap.
I have seen plastidipped cars that gathered a crowd of admirers.
I have seen plastidpped cars that looked like crap.

There are good jobs and bad jobs done for everything.

My favorite thing is when people paint or sticker the gas lid. Just be cause its the easiest and most basic thing to do, doesn't mean you should do it. It immediately makes a car looks like a cheap piece of shit, no matter what.

I misspoke. Meant haze, not swirls, which was already documented in this thread. Either way, I've used it on my emblems, I've even had it applied "correctly" on small parts of my car's paint, and it still leaves flecks when you peel it off.

Commenting that it may not be old enough yet to be proven and that it may not be wise to apply it to something that cost tens of thousands of dollars isn't "hating". It's a legitimate concern, and the fact that you're getting so upset about it makes me think you're some sort of a vendor with a conflict of interest.

Plastidip has been around about 40 years now! Hardly "new" and has proven to be an effective coating when done right. I used it on the hood of my 70 Coronet R/t back in 78 and never had an issue. When I got bored I just peeled it off and there was zero effect to the paint. Never used it again but I would think that the tech has only improved over the last 38 years.

It seems like it just went mainstream in the automotive scene a few years back but it has been around for much longer than that.

Lots of money in that car. Please spend a few extra bucks to fill those ugly holes.

Nevermind, not countersunk.

Kinda, I tired doing the paint myself with some rattle cans. The color was a a bit off, so i decided to just dip the car.
