That stuff is garbage and should only ever be used for things like emblems and small trim pieces. Those cars may look nice in the short term but plasti dip doesn't stay nice for long and it is a royal pain to remove once you've put it on, even if they apply it correctly (i.e. thick enough coating).

Plasti dip with the new high gloss top coat (which can be sanded/buffed) is amazing if applied correctly. And it lasts for years. I'm probably going to get the whole thing top coated plastidip as a clear bra.

I agree that it looks great when done properly just like vinyl wrap but just like many of the things that can be done to a car cutting corners usually comes back to bite you.There are a lot of good looking cars around here that i see driving at work but for every one that looks good i see lots that would make the cars in FF2 look like SEMA show winners.Not to stereotype anyone,being a motorcycle rider have to hear about how bad us Harley guys are with our pipes while packs of sport bikes run around here with the motors hitting the limiter with their race exhausts in traffic all spring and summer.Was just observing how it seems that the dip market seems to be centered around cars like ours in my area,well also Jeeps and pickups too.think the trucks look good with black wheels,not so much tail lights but rather see that than the e bay led ones that have half the bulbs burned out.

I don't know. If it lasts 2 years I'll be happy for the cost. I'm about to have a friends shop do my other car since the front end is really nasty with rock chips and stuff but I dont care enough to have it repainted with a decent paint job.

I find it fascinating that some folks spend many dollars and hours making their car's finish look real shiny ........ and others spend many dollars to make their cars finish look flat and dull ........

Personally, with an annual coat of wax on the car, if I want a shiny finish, I wash it ..... if I want a dull finish ...... I don't wash it.

why hate? plastidip perfectly fills a void in the market between paint protection and a true paint job..and don't bs me, the stuff is easy to remove...it protects your paint, allows you to go for a different look temporarily whether because you want to be able to switch colors down the road or just want to be able to keep your car stock. While a true paint job done right will always be the best, many dips these days come very close, no need to talk trash

I've never seen a plasti-dip car that looks good even the professionally dipped cars.

I've been a car guy for longer than most of the young guys on this forum. It pains me to see such cheap mods with these cars. What happen with people saving up money for the nice mods they wanted for their cars vs going cheap ?

These kind of mods is why the car scene is dying in my opinion.

..probably because they didn't do it properly. I've never had a bad experience with plastidip...plus the fact that you claim you've never seen a nicely dipped car is total crap..

How the hell would plastidip hurt the car scene?...the delusion of some people..if you haven't noticed in general, less & less people are giving a shit about cars in the past 20 years....absolutely hilarious that you try to attribute things like plastidip which have only revitalized the car scene.

There are dips not made for cars that damage clear coat. But there are also plenty of cars that have been dipped with the correct dip and had it removed with no ill effects.

If my paint is screwed it bugs me but isnt worth a $3k paint job or $2k wrap. But I'll risk $500 to dip it and be good for a couple years. To each his own but don't blame the car scene dying on cheap mods. The scene is stronger then that and survived "rice" since the 90s. Hobbies and fads come and go.

Honestly I've never seen a plasti dip car period. I didn't even know what pasti dip was till i bought my FRS and the emblem was red and it peeled off like latex. I thought some goober painted it in latex lol

I don't feel like it has been around long enough to really have enough data on it. What if it was used on a garage queen and lasts 10 years because the car isn't used much? Is it still protecting the paint or is it messing with the clear coat, creating staining, swirls, etc? How deteriorated will it be when someone goes to remove it, and will it still peel off easily even if a sufficient thickness was initially applied? I can tell you I've personally removed plasti dip from cars and even when it was applied in sufficient thickness, it leaves speckles. At a minimum, you're going to have to clay the thing, which I guess you'd be doing every few years anyway, but still.


I just don't trust it and I think it's stupid to take the risk applying it to something that costs you tens of thousands of dollars. I bought my Miata with a really poorly done respray and its a cheap POS anyway. I might end up dipping it because who cares but I wouldn't even think about using that stuff on a $20k plus car with an actual nice paint job.
