Good call on the Petro Glide pass. There is one right around the corner from the office where I work. It should be reasonably easy to keep the salt off with frequent trips.
Yep. After two winters mine is still pristine. Other than uncoated bolts, fitting and components that is, but they will rust anyway so that does not bother me. I spend 14 hours a week on the 401 so am exposed to way more salt and slush than normal.

We have 1998 Honda Accord that has zero rust thanks to krown. The body has roughly 800,000km. On its 2nd engine. They're great. The holes are only meant to spray oil so it keeps it rust free. No harm.

That's a fair counter point. I wish the industry did controlled studies like in clinical trials to make evaluating products easier...

Why buy a car to store it?

Yeah, OK.. I really do get it. I have a car I store, too, but it's an 80's Benz and they salt our roads CONSTANTLY during the winter. I can't predict the future, but I'm not banking on my FR-S being worth a ton of dough in 30 years so I'm enoying it year-round now. Then again, I won't be worth much in 30 years either...

If you've got an 80s car, especially a merc it's going to rust from the inside out. Storage had better be really dry

I have found with rustproofing that it never really helped much on any of my previous cars and in some cases actually trapped moisture that lead to rust. It also helps that cars made in the last 10 years or so (other than Mazdas) are constructed of much more rust resistant materials than in the past. Think back on how often you see a badly rusted 2006 or up car. Not bloody often I bet (again other than Mazdas). I have a big gouge on my one front fender that I have left exposed as an experiment (I change cars every 5 years so it is not a huge risk factor for me) and after two years and two salty winters it is just now starting to show some surface rust. That is pretty damn good in my books. Oh and the surface rust even helps it blend in better with the colour of the car!

This. I have never seen a closed car wash in Ontario or Quebec unless it was for maintenance.

Actually, the big take away is that you're not team luxury if you choose to drive your car all year round
