The author says how the s-chassis died because it didnt get an sr20 in north america, but even though in Japan s-chassis was offered with a boosted engine it didnt last long either. In north america 1998 was the last production year for s-chassis and in japan after the s15 in 2001 or 2002 they stopped production. So, you can't say that if the brz were to receive a turbocharged engine it would remain in production for longer.

I have a twin for the cargo space and +2 seats. I don't like the spyder in the sense that I can only bring 1 chick at a time . Kidding aside, the twin is more practical for everyday use. It is more refined and smells better. I am willing to get rid of the Spyder and sell it to you twice the price if the Twin will get boosted from factory.

Funny that I can stab you with your own argument. Why did you get an FR-S/BRZ? You've chosen this particular car for what? .. is that a NEED or WANT??? You could have bought a Toyota Yaris for a lot cheaper and more cargo right? You know the thing is, it is more than a question of NEED or WANT... it is all about SATISFACTION. But then again, SATISFACTION varies from one person to another.. it seems that you are now very satisfied with your car and if so, don't be hard on people who are still searching for their satisfaction. Don't be hard on people who are hoping that someday, they will get a boosted FR-S/BRZ.
So the exSpyder (it is just a Spyder shell it is no longer what it was) was cheap to buy used and many years old. Nota fair comparison to modding a new car when talking price. I can go out and buy an old Omni for $200 and make it into something that is fast but that wasn't what we were talking about.

Yes I could have bought a Yaris but the guys complaining about power could have bought a Genesis, Mustang, Camaro, etc so I flip that talking point back to you.

You are completely correct that satisfaction is based on the person and most seem very satisfied with the power the car has. I Totally get that many want more power and I am not for one second telling them that they should not want it. My argument is against the guys that say or imply the car does not function and is useless without that extra and that it needs more to be any good. This whole "your grandma will pass you in her Yugo and you are fooling yourself if you like what it has" crap is what I am talking to. I have no problem with guys that want more power but am sick of being told that I am somehow delusional if I don't. If the guys yelling for more power are driving the car to the limits on the street (the guys that track it are a totally different story but that is probably 2% of the owners) should probably not be driving anything anyway.

And they made/make many other cars that we never get here for one reason or another. The fact it lasted a bit longer in any other market does not mean it was due to it having a "better" engine.

Why are you comparing a 10-15 year old second-hand chassis with a used engine swap to a brand-new, stock 2017 car with full warranty? Pointless/irrelevant comparison.

As to an OEM turbo, Toyota/Subaru probably aren't doing it because there isn't a business case for it. Even if they dropped the 268 hp WRX engine into the BRZ the cost would be $30k or more, and the average buyer who just sees HP numbers still wouldn't think it offered enough value vs. the 435 hp Mustang GT and 455 hp Camaro SS. In fact I would guess a significant amount of any additional sales would be cannibalized from would-be WRX or STI buyers which I'm sure Subaru would love. May steal some 370z customers but that "untapped market" is even smaller than that for the 86/BRZ. There just aren't enough actual buyers for a 268 hp, 2800 lbs. Japanese RWD coupe no matter what the internet says.

I really love running the engine to redline through first and second. Sometimes even third. It's so easy and thrilling and, in the end, you're not going that fast. Of course running through fourth is even more fun, but that's basically a track-only experience. I don't want to run through fifth. My interest in speed more than runs out at 120mph.

Not that pounding acceleration isn't awesome. Just not the only awesome thing.

Lateral acceleration is fun too. The Twins can do that.

A Ferrari from the 80s posts 6 second 0-60 times, but I'm sure no one questions it's sports car credentials, even today. A Sienna could hit 0-60 in under 6 seconds, and no one will ever mistake it for a sports car. Focusing on 0-60 and quarter mile times as the defining aspect of a sports car? Downright nutty.
