Now, here's my qualifying statement. I agree with the suspicion that Motul is able to achieve compatibility with typical synchronized transmissions through an additive that prevents reaction with the softer metals. Even if I am wrong, it costs me nothing to use a decent straight GL-4 MT fluid. I prefer Redline MT-90 for my trans and a proper "limited-slip" GL-5 for the diff. I also maintain that, for a non-tracked/flogged car, there's no reason to change out the stock fluid for the life of the car. I changed my fluid because I beat the piss out of it from time to time. I'm pretty sure it was unnecessary and the stock fluid does a good job of keeping it quiet.

Slightly OT but I didn't think this was needed for a Torsen LSD since it does not use clutches but gears. My understanding is that the limited slip additive is only needed for clutches, and with a Torsen you can use regular gear oil without the additive. I don't think the additive hurts though...

So I had to drive my car tonight, and I followed Sly's advice to let the clutch move into and out of gears on its own by giving it a little push, man, my gear shifts actually felt so smooth, I did not have to use alot of energy to shift, I was really excited and happy
![]() My car is a daily drive car, and I drive at 75 or 80 on the high every day to get to work. So I don't think I need to change the transmission fluid that often right? |

You don't have to change it ever.
