Noticeable vibration after installing aftermarket parts.
Hello all,
I changed my exhaust system this past weekend, now I'm running a skunk2 header with perrin overpipe and 2.5 catback exhaust. It sounds amazing, but now there is a noticeable vibration in the cabin. Is this to be expected when having aftermarket parts? Sidenote, when the parts were all installed I checked for exhaust leaks and couldn't find any, but I have some doubts. I'm going to a tuner this weekend to get the most out of the new parts. Would it be too much to ask the tuner to check for exhaust leaks as well? Thanks for the feedback. |

All the exhaust mounts in place and secure? A missing or improperly attached mount will let the system vibrate like a sonofabitch.

You could also be feeling a change in resonance as well. Everyone is more sensitive to different frequencies.

I'm guessing the new exhaust system is much lighter than factory, therefore, causing an imbalance and that can add to the vibration.

I did have to remove the mount on the engine to allow space for the overpipe. I'll check that out again.

Stiffer urethane exhaust hangers (if anyone even makes any yet) instead of the flimsy stock rubber ones.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, I would ask the tuner (if they have a rack) to check for potential places where any part of the exhaust system could be vibrating against another part under the car. Bubba says to find the exhaust part that is "almost" touching the frame and take a crowbar and bend it away from that part. Be advised that Bubba's main automotive tools are a crowbar, vice grips, bailing wire and duct tape. humfrz |
