Ah, I don't do that anyway, haha
I've been downshifting, even though it seems scary sometimes haha

watch vids on you tube on "rev matching" and "heel and toe" - the idea when downshifting is to make a clean transition into engaging the clutch (i.e. releasing the pedal) to avoid wearing the clutch and worse, "shocking" the drivetrain with too abrupt of an engagement (where the engine is spinning much slower than the wheels/transmission).

No offense, but there is nothing wrong with the clutch in the BRZ. I test drove one a few times and was able to make the shifts perfectly smooth - and you can easily do rev matching in it too.

I always emphasize to new manual drivers that you need to be super slow and smooth when releasing the clutch. You will develop a natural feel for the grab zone and be able to make it smoother than an automatic eventually. If you drop it too quickly, you'll give the drivetrain a whiplash! And just remember, ONLY go into first when stopped or BARELY moving! It is an extremely short gear and can't handle the massive speed variance. I remember when I was teaching my brother to drive a manual, he started shifting down into 1st when we were still going like 25 mph, and I was like WOAH! Keep it in second bro!

So yeah, it's just a matter of practice. You'll eventually be able to release quickly up to the grab zone, then slow down and finesse it as needed until it fully grabs and then let it go completely.

Yea i agree its totally because of my skill level that im jerking right now. However, i think the way the gas pedal feels significantly different in the 2017 compared to the previous generation from my test drives.

Yeah, I saw your video and that does not look normal. Maybe try resetting it by unplugging the battery for a bit. The ECU mapping may have gotten funky. But either way, it might be able to smooth itself out as it learns and breaks in over time. Hopefully it's not actually an engine problem.

Pg. 220 of the manual says - "This chart is intended for reference only and does not show the actual engine torque or output" ...

I figured it out. Page 430 of the manual said "after the push button ignition switch has been turned off with the select lever in a position other than P, the select lever has been shifted to P." Corrective procedure - turn the push button ignition switch off.

I've been driving manual since I was 16. The 86 clutch leaves a lot to be desired. It's vague and the pedal sits relatively high at rest.

That's why so many people adjust the pedal height, remove the clutch spring, or replace the cylinder.

How old are you now? 17? LOL JK.

To each their own I guess but I am usually pretty sensitive to things and have felt a lot of bad clutches but with this one, I was able to easily adapt with no problems. I feel like it doesn't take an extreme in any direction (too heavy, too light, too high, or too low) and is a good compromise to satisfy most people. But yeah, at least there is a way to adjust it.

Honestly, if you want to learn the clutch characteristics.. Go to a parking lot that is flat> from a stop, using only your left foot on the clutch, no additional throttle, begin to manage the engagement point and as you begin moving you can release more on the pedal and engage the drivetrain more.

Rpms start to drop too low, engage more clutch; not moving anywhere, disengage the clutch more. So on and so forth.

In summary, learn to start moving with no added throttle; just idle.

FYI for those will change the alarm to be on by default - the door has to be opened quite a bit for this procedure to work. I started with just a little gap, enough for the car ro recognize door is open, and wondered why it didn't work...

2x means it's disabled?

Not sure why they wouldnt default to active. Same with the door handle should default to opening both doors... To me that is what most people want/prefer?

We'll see how you feel when you actually own one.

BTW, are you buying an MY17 or waiting?
