I'm stuck in the 50's again ...... We used to take apart the universal joint and then drop the driveshaft. Or, at least I did ...... yep, those "C" clips were a butch to get off of the universal joint without messing them up .....

Thanks again fer the edumacation. I'm going to add you to my consulting staff, along with @Ultramaroon.

It's a lot easier to just unbolt the 4 bolts in the rear of drive shaft lol. Idk nothing about 50s cars lol I thought they drove Fred flintstone cars back in your day. This position I get a monthly r&d stipend?

Output shaft of the trans used to look more like the input of the diff. Unbolt both ends.

Actually, my automotive expertise is/was with the 1930s and 1940s cars and trucks.

I started losing out in the 50s, when they came out with automatic transmissions and fuel injection and fancy stuff like that ......

No, your position is the unpaid intern position that @Ultramaroon got bumped up from........

Apparently, their are two bearings? Forgive me for my lack of knowledge.

Anyways, the one that went was covered and wasn't considered to them as a "wear" item, but the other one was so I was going to have to pay $36 for it. I could of been fine just replacing the 2 throw outs for another 15-20k or longer per the dealer, but as I said, paying what I paid for a new clutch and not getting charged the labor due to that one bearing being covered I felt was a decent deal.

I just hope I can get used to the new feel of the shifting through gears.

Also... Is there a way for me to adjust the catch point of the clutch? It seems I have to let the pedal out further before it catches.

My mechanic was the one that told me that. Maybe he changes the fluid out because it's a good practice anyway. Or maybe some subaru wrx gearboxes will leak out a bit at the seal when you remove the driveshaft, and he doesn't want to get smelly transmission fluid all over his clothes and his shop.

Yes and this is a pretty important adjustment to make after a clutch install.

Here's the DIY guide for easy clutch grab adjustment: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8040

I'd take it to a shop to do the adjustment if you don't know what you're doing. A good tuner / installer shop can get that done for you.

Actually, there is only one TOB (Throw Out Bearing) or release bearing per car .....
