Assuming they are using Katzkins, you can have the exact same job done locally by the same people that do it for your dealership...and save several hundred dollars(or thousand in some cases).

It should be around $1000-$1200 after tax for an individual, and obviously much less for a dealer that sends numerous jobs their way.

When I first saw leather on a Scion tC at my dealer, I did my homework to undercut them. They were asking $1400 but had it marked down on the sticker to $1200 which is fair IMO.

And no, you don't get to keep the stock seat covers, often they are destroyed in the removal process.

I had Katzkin installed in my wife's 2011 Accord. It was about $1200 installed.

Maybe it's just me, but the aftermarket leather job in those FR-S pictures looks really well done. Not a huge fan of the red shoulders, but the great things about Katzkin is you can get EXACTLY what you want, they'll make anything you can dream up with colors, stitching, what's leather and what isn't, etc.

WTF?

My add-ons were a trunk mat and bumper applique. No biggie. Was happy to keep them because my experience was great at the dealer I went to.

Way too much money charged to the OP, and most definitely on your Miller quote. Dang.

Some of you may recall the SOCAL BMW dealer that was advertising the BMW 1M for $40 k over MSRP. I wonder if someone was STOOOPID enough to pay that price?

Isn't MSRP for the manual FR-S suppose to be $24,930?

Hey guys! First post for me!

I just test drove one today here in Concord, CA. The salesman said that they will NOT mark up any Scion over MSRP. He also mentioned that there are certain rules Scion dealers must follow, as far as pricing and options go and a dealership can lose their right to sell Scion's over that markup krap. DO NOT pay for that extra stuff.

Gotta factor in the options.

The one I put a deposit on has the bumper applique and wheel locks. $25,066 MSRP I believe.

There's a difference between a greedy dealer and a dealer who knows how to expand profit. But "Market Adjustments" are a joke.

Installing things like leather for mark-up is a little different because technically you've paid for something. It's like buying a 16.9oz $7 soda at an amusement park.

The fact is, the cars with those upgrades will sell.

My dad sold all 3 of his FR-S's with a similar upgrade in the 3 days they were for sale, and the buyers didn't care. The leather is pretty nice from what I heard too. It keeps the red stitching and integrates the 'FR-S' logo.

Just let the dealers earn profit from someone else who don't care. If you don't want it, go to another dealership...it's that simple. If other dealerships don't have it completely stock, then wait for the next allocations if it's worth the extra price (If it were me, I'd wait for a stock one.)

Someone also called him and asked if they'll sell one without leather, and they definitely will.

Ah, wasn't thinking of (the normal) options as part of MSRP

Makes me think kind thoughts about my local Toyota dealer. The sticker price on mine was $25,187 (base + destination + bumper applique, wheel locks and trunk mat).

I just remembered something about the Katzkins: the ones you get for the $1000-$1400 range probably are not all leather. The sides and rear of the seats for example most likely will not be leather. You can buy a more expensive cover that includes more leather pieces that pushes the price to and over $2k.

Another reason why dealerships are doing this is because of the lack of port-installed accessories. The profit on this car is low compared to better selling cars. I.e. Corolla and Prius.

$1400 is low? At least that's the difference up here in Canada between dealer invoice and MSRP. Hardly think so since the average subcompact/compact up here has a $900-$1200 difference from invoice to MSRP.
