I'm more surprised you didn't comment on me commuting on I-285 on a motorcycle. Obviously the heat was the least of my worries!

After work I take the vest into the bathroom, wet it under the sink and then wring it out a bit. It quickly zips and snaps into my jacket and that's it. The whole thing takes a few extra minutes but it's well worth it for the hour long ride. It already takes me a few minutes to gear up for the ride home anyways, what with having to put on overpants, riding boots, jacket, gloves, and helmet. What's an extra 2 or 3 minutes to be much more comfortable. 108 is way too hot for me, even with the vest. Jacket and vest. I got the vest for less than half of what it is at revzilla. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/r...alactic-jacket http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/r...ng-vest-insert Pretty good information for hot weather riding here. http://www.ironbutt.com/ibmagazine/i..._62-66_Hot.pdf |

For the person that said they have never seen a bike rear ended, it's happened to me in gridlock traffic twice. I also got pushed off the road by a cell using soccer mom in her huge SUV. I t-boned a gal that pulled in front of me because "i came out of nowhere". You see cars hit each other? Bikes are harder to see and when people don't bother looking over their shoulders or using their mirrors, it gets worse. And DANG, our c-pillars are huge...

Always give myself space to the front and try to aim the bike to the side a little in case I get rear-ended, theory being I'll get pushed out of the way of the hammer and anvil. I also never assume cars see me and quite often they don't. I'm not a rider, I'm a driver on a bike so, ironically, most times I get a close call it's not a "cager," but some overconfident asshat on another scoot doing something stupid and unexpected. Consequently, I avoid riding near other bikes.

needless to say, to anyone not in "the know". I-285 is a death trap in a car. to ride a bike on it is boarderline the bravest/dumbest thing a human can do that doesn't involve a Cobra or Great White shark.

Nothing worse than two or more riders together.
