We're splitting hairs at this point (FRS v. BRZ)
What the hell is with having 2 of the exact same car (minus a few cosmetic differences and "one handles like .5% different than the other") and forcing buyers to decide which one? I'd rather have 1 brand and 3 different trim levels instead.. But I know about the birth of FRSBRZ
Unless you're Bill gates, and a car enthusiast, you're going to spend at least a few hours researching which one to get. I know people in this section will prefer the FR-S, basically the FR-S is cheaper, has less options, is 10mm lower, has the "scion" branding (which is like buying legos versus a hobby lobby car kit to build), less luxurious... but has a cooler bumper cover. I LOVE the sound of the WRX/STi boxer motor but the FRS sounds nothing like it. You dont get the burbley floating piston sound.. you basically get a regular 4 cylinder sound. And no v-tec or turbo. Anyone think Toyota could've developed a new 4 cylinder similar to S2000/Honda or even their own 170hp Celica GT? As I stand right now, I want an FR-S just because I can save a couple thousand and buy a CAI/exhaust with that. And it'd be a lot cooler than a stock BRZ (no offense. same car, different money) |

I didnt care about the price between the two. I chose the frs because of the interior/bumper. I wanted no navi, no fancy radio, nothing like that. Just plain and simple, that and it over steers more.

What sold me on the FRS was the front end design and the lower price. And ^^ no 'fancy' interior bits. Though the seat material is better in the BRZ.
An UEL will give the boxer sound like a traditional Subaru with UEL.

A big difference, imo, would be if the BRZ had a 10hp boost over the FRS due to a tune or intake difference... but otherwise they're 99% the same car Quote:
have you rode/driven in a BRZ? ive read a couple opinions about how the part leather/part alacantra (sp) seats in the BRZ arent cool. You basically slide on the leather, grip on the alacantra edit: i think the front design alone is enough for me to want the FRS. I know some BRZ owners love their bumper, but I dont like that black plastic look edit2: torque dip turns me off because not only does it only have 151 ft-lbs torque.. but you dont feel anything 3-5k rpm? Should've been solved in R&D.. but hopefully it will be fixed for 2014 Last edited by s5pitfire; 07-25-2013 at 10:31 PM. |

VTEC in Toyota is called VVTi; the FA20 has it - it's just variable valve timing, nothing too special. Want a turbo and a WRX sounding engine? Buy a damn WRX. ... but instead they developed a new engine with Subaru which is 200hp? For shame Toyota, when you could have put a 170hp Celica engine in there! |

ANOTHER WHY I PICKED FRS OVER BRZ OR VICE VERSA!!! Sweet! The reason Subaru and Toyota joined together because it shares the R&D costs and etc. Each has their own target markets so the cars were tweaked for their crowd.
No biggie guys. |

I think they just need to make a sticky in the FR-S subforum that says "Why I prefer my FR-S over the BRZ" and then make a sticky in the BRZ subforum that says "Why I prefer my BRZ over the FR-S" and then ban anyone who opens a new thread....

If I wanted some fancy interiors for my car, I'd buy a BMW or a Mercedes. FR-S has no distractions besides the crickets.

Listened to some celica GTS videos and sounds very similar to v-tec.. but i guess it will only have 200hp like a civic si with full BPU (never had a civic but i like the Si)and about the FA20... you cant have it all but i guess i compare it to the s2000's 240hp and a few more torque. 40 hp is more than you would get from CAI/headers/exhaust Quote:
yet im saying it's just splitting hairs/doesnt makes a minute difference ![]() edit: but does make a difference and its fun to argue about

Not to flame but why is it always the frs ppl who need to compare there car to the brz and need to justify why they bought it any why its better? I think every single person who bought thought about the differences and made there choice accordingly, and if you have no idea why there are 2 badges or actually 3, google or youtube be your friend. Then use common sense to work out why there are different badges.
Life is fn simple if you have problems with the current car and you cannot see where they had to make compromises for the price you pay frs or brz, and you cant deal with it dont buy it, move on to a different car, i am pretty aure the camaro, mustang gt, or genesis come under there own badge, it will help you make your decision easier if you look at those since its far to hard to choose from scion or subaru, for some. |
