Solving the transmission problem. The R154.
So I was recently in contact with a well known performance fabrication company, and I inquired about getting an Fa20 to R154 adapter made.
They said if it was a one off piece, the cost would be prohibitive for most.. but If they had enough interest.. they might be willing to put one into production. So, who's interested in an R154 Swap kit? They are cheap, and when built with a MC upgrade pack.. hold Gobs of power. What do you say guys? Am I the only one, or does it sound as good to you as it does to me? (Seriously, is this a bad idea? It doesn't seem terrible, but I'm no expert) |

Have you ever driven a car with an R154? They shift like absolute ass. Same trans as jeep wranglers and dodge trucks.

So we would need the trans, adapter, new trans mount, and new drive shaft I'm guessing?

And no, they aren't cheap. Been trying to fit one behind a 2rz and I've since dropped my standards down to a w58 due to costs.
On a somewhat related note, does someone know off the top of their heads which jeep trans it is that's directly comparable? From a 90s Cherokee right and some wranglers right? |

FullBlown makes a kit to drop a Supra V160 in. That'll probably be better than a random truck transmission.

I know this because I was contemplating dropping a JZ into my Wrangler and keeping 4WD it's essentially just a bellhousing swap, mismatch clutch, and change/modify the input shaft away from working.

I have an R154 in my Supra. They shift fine when rebuilt, but I wouldn't spend the cash people are paying for them now. Plus if you break anything you can't buy a lot of the internal parts so then you're stuck buying another expensive core to start over with. They're not that strong either. The biggest problem with mine is I can't get the tail shaft to stop leaking. I personally think the breather/oiling setup sucks from the factory in the R154. A lot of people have this problem if you look around. I would look at more modern options like the CD009 or the T56/TR6060.

The v160 is almost pointless, for that cost you could buy a LS and a t56.
I don't know where you guys are getting them for such an expensive cost, my friend got one for his Supra rebuild, The (already working) r154 and the MC rebuild kit was less than 2k together. I have one sitting in my garage that we pulled apart and inspected, and while it hasn't been put in anything.. it looks fine on the inside/holds fluid. Cost me $900. And if you guys haven't looked around, they are being put in supra's/JZ swaps because they are way more cost effective. On top of that a R154 with an MC kit could hold well over 600HP. I've read more, but I've only seen 600whp on it first hand. Hell, Pure auto is doing their Budget 2jz swap with an R154 right now. |

The t56 isn't a bad idea, but even used it's 2x the cost.
