Some interesting statistics. I appreciate the eye opener and applaud you for bearing the burden of being that ambassador so to speak. As always, I would always prefer to get from one place to another without incident on my behalf and that of others, which includes motorcycle riders as well. I suppose I'm overly cautious myself and wish some riders would practice the same as you seem to.
Some riders are completely negligent if not purposefully ignorant on the road, like their motorcycle license is a permit to be reckless. Lane sharing is just one of the several components of that risky business and hope to never have another incident with a rider - I have only had one problem when I was hit by one while stopped at a red light. |

I'm sure that some of my levelheadedness is due to the fact that I didn't start riding until I was in my 30s and already had a wife and two kids. <sarcasm>How irresponsible of me.</sarcasm>
I think the "danger" of motorcycling draws in a bit of "that" crowd but honestly you see just as many douche bags in souped up cars and trucks as you do on bikes. Heck just on this site alone I see quite a few posts about hooning around and the results of drifting into curbs. It sucks being part of a group of individuals that get a bad name because of a select few. |

My main complaints about motorcyclists is them getting into single-vehicle accidents on my road, closing it down, and them riding ahead of me slowly, because they're joyriding when I just want to get the hell home. I have those same complaints about cars too, but the cars are worse. They tend to take out our power.

And you chose to drive a cage that cannot legally lane split. If you're that envious of his ability to get around quicker you're welcome to buy a motorcycle. Works both ways homie. |

Got hit on the freeway by a drunk driver. I still ride, but only split lane's @ red lights, & only then if there's lot's of traffic. Like topcoat said, it irritates me to see how so many think they are above the law !!!

I dont believe its legal in WA, nor do I ride, and if I did I doubt Id have the 'nads to split lanes. I just dont think its safe.

If you live in a decent sized city in CA, you can and probably should be using lane splitting to some extent to if you're a motorcyclist.
I commonly split lanes at red lights, I feel much safer being out ahead of traffic than I do being a sitting duck when someone inevitably enters your lane/right of way. That said, there's a time and place for lane splitting and you should carefully weigh the pros and cons of every situation.

It's pretty funny. If you take "lane splitting" out of your last sentence it pretty much sums up everything everywhere. |

There are bills that have been attempted on other states, but the last time I checked none had yet passed. In most states motorcycles can ride two abreast or at least slightly trailing, but that is not considered lane splitting.

Good for you. But it isn't illegal for people in California. All types of bikes with all types of riders split lanes and it works fine here 99% of the time.
