No, your drive train warranty is for 5years and 60K miles from date of original purchase. If you had a new engine installed under warranty at 59K and 4 years-11months, it would only be warrantied for another 1k miles or 1 month.

The warranty does NOT start over when component is repaired or replaced.

Since your video is from inside the car, it's kinda hard to tell what that is, but to me, it doesn't sound like a rod bearing. Didn't notice if you had listed if it was an auto or manual trans, but if it's a manual, it almost sounds like something inside the bell housing or possibly a starter solenoid (depending on how these starters are designed/work). Have you checked all the pulleys on the front of the engine? Keep us posted........

I was thinking chunks of clutch are banging around in there, but then again if the clutch works it might just be the bottom end... Hope it ends well with the warranty!

I agree. Whatever it is, it is something mechanical in the engine and is covered under warranty.

The guy you spoke to on the phone was either wrong or misunderstood you

Some cases have seen the dealer offer warranty on the new part, probably not a full additional 60k miles, but some sort of limited guarantee on the repair should be offered. Just so people know they aren't SOL when they go through this.

You do have the Owner's Manual and the warranty booklet, which clearly states what you have or don't have.

If your dealer gives you wrong info, either have them fix it under warranty or take it to another dealer willing to get paid for guaranteed work. It's basically free money for everyone paid by corporate.

Any check engine lights came on? If so pull out your code reader, (buy one it's about $60-80) and see what's the problem.
That's if you haven't already towed it to a shop or not.
If the engine does sound like that in the video, then it's not looking good.

Also. Depends what mods you have on the car. With only 43k your in warranty. If one dealer gives you lip, take it to another.

Afaik dealers are not allowed to choose to honor a manufacturer's warranty. If that were the case the warranty would be worthless. Call Toyota of USA to complain and report the dealer to whatever fraud department CA has.

For every car that I have ever owned that has ever had to go in for warranty service work near the end of the warranty (2). The work and new parts have always had a 1 year warranty. I'm guessing that was probably 1 year 12,000 miles. These were a new head unit in a chevy cobalt, where the replacement was replaced in 6 months after the warranty expired and an entire transfer case in a dodge journey due to a leak.

As far as the original question goes, I agree with the overall sentiment. Get it towed to the dealership.

Yes, if a major warranty repair is done near the end of the factory warranty period, the factory (or the dealership) might offer some extended coverage as a customer accomodation.

But the original factory warranty is time-and-mileage specific. Having a component replaced does not restart the clock on the original factory warranty.

The question was asked...

"is 2nd engine also covered? or is that different? Meaning if my original one dies, will 2nd be covered all over again to 50k?"

The answer is yes and no, the new engine will most likely come with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. The same as if you purchased a new engine or part from the dealership. If you bought a new alternator from the parts department and it broke the next day would you expect them to tell you to pound sand? My experiences have been with Dodge and Chevy not Toyota or Subaru but I would expect a very similar experience.

The "extended warranty" that I speak of is not on the entire car but the parts and service that were provided. Same warranty as if you were a paying customer and you paid the service department to do the work.

I never said your warranty starts over.

I agree you didn't, but that really was the original question.

"...is it different?" Yes, its different. "...will 2nd be covered all over again...? No, it won't.

There may be no added coverage, or some limited additional coverage. As you suggest, 12K would not be an unusual accomodation.
