Broke down and out of warranty!!

So just running errands and a nasty sound comes from the engine. I start to notice power failure and she dies on me. Luckily she had enough juice to get me to the side of the road. Won't turn over unless I get a jump but even then still turns off after a minute.
I live in Woodland hills CA anyone have any advice or tips on what my next step should be. I've called the dealer (Hamer Toyota) they say I'm out of warranty if it is that I spun a bearing.

Well, The_Thirrd ........ that is a tough first post ...... :(

Can you describe the "nasty sound" .. ??

After your jump and it does turn over for a minute, what did it sound like .. ??

I reckon you're going to have it to take it to the dealer, or an auto shop, for diagnosis.

Hmmmm.........not a good sound .......

I wish I could come up with a possibility that is not a serious matter, however, I can't.

I does sound to me like a bad rod bearing or something major in the valve train came unglued...... :sigh:

I hope I'm wrong ...... keep us posted.

So do you think I should go to the dealer or another shop. Really hope I don't have to spend a crazy amount of money to get her up again.

Well, the powertrain warranty on your car is 5 years or 60,000 miles.

If this noise is caused by something gone bad in the powertrain and you have kept up the scheduled maintenance and since you don't have any mods, the dealer should fix it under warranty.

I would suggest you have it towed to the dealer.

Keep us posted.

Then you're still under warranty.

5years/60K miles on power train.

BRZnut 07-31-2016 11:36 AM

you have a warrantee on the engine itself, as others have said. Just make sure you have the receipts for all your oil and filter changes.

Let us know what happens....Good Luck!

is 2nd engine also covered? or is that different? Meaning if my original one dies, will 2nd be covered all over again to 50k?
