Here's a long discussion of the pros & cons of TRD's short throw shifter adapter. The pros are that it's relatively cheap and easier to install than a true replacement shifter, such as the Kartboy. Cons are that it's really a temporary solution, the main bolt can loosen over time, and some people complain that it negatively affects the shifter's feel.

In other words not an "upgrade" and a change just to change in FN's case.

How does the JDM TRD short shifter compare to the TRD USA shifter? It wouldn't have that loose bolt issue that the TRD USA one had would it

No it won't, cuz Japan one is the entire shifter assembly. Obviously cost quite a bit more, but quality is much better.

That's pretty much been resolved by using high strength loctite and using the proper torque on that bolt. I've had mine a year and no loosening whatsoever

Red loctite will get the job done to keep the bolt from coming loose. Of course sometimes I think I should have just got the JDM short shifter instead.
