A Cat is not a resonator

Catalytic Converters, (one in the header, and one in the front pipe) may resonate, but because they aren't empty spaces, they can't be called resonators. Resonators are simply carefully designed empty spaces which help cancel out certain resonant tones. There is only one resonator in the stock setup, in the front pipe, after the Cat.

Never seen the video, nor do I care for justin bieber in any sense. Not sure why it shows anything regarding my 'favorite vids'. Hardly use (or post) to youtube as it is.

Wonder if I left my youtube account logged in at someone's house or something...

Exactly that, it will end up with 3 resonators in close proximity no matter what you do with the stock front pipe and mid pipe, so it should be welded in before the OEM front pipe resonator.

So you're suggesting putting a resonator in the front pipe then, and not midpipe. Due to space constraint in the midpipe? Do we have ample room in the front pipe for a resonator currently?

It would have to be placed between the cat and the exhaust hanger

OR before the midpipe goes over the rear axle

But look there isn't much space between the OEM "tube" type resonator running the length of the mid pipe

Best place to add a resonator is on the front pipe imo, after the cat

All,

After some review, I think i'm OK on the rasp. There is very little overall -- I think i'm going to attempt to throw in a small muffler into midpipe to bring down the volume. There isn't any 'drone' persay... but the exhaust is simply noisy on the highway above 3k RPM.

Will research to find a decent tube-style muffler that can be welded in.

EDIT: you may be thinking 'why modify the mid-pipe?' -- I am not going to modify my own. I can pick up one for $40.... The stock front-pipe is much more expensive than $40.

Update: Attempted to have ultra quiet resonator (1141) installed in stock piping. The shop couldn't find a place to put it in without it hitting on the car. They eventually found a place to put it, but would have to hack up the front pipe and midpipe, costing $200 in total. With the cost of the ultra quiet, that would put this at $300 -- I could pretty much afford a new catback at that point.

The shop then found a bottle style muffler to install. They welded it in within 2 feet of the end of the midpipe (where the midpipe connects to the axleback). The total cost was $95, or roughly the cost of the ultra quiet resonator (which I was planning to return) so I figured I could get out of there for free.

Unfortunately, after review, the bottle style muffler sucked the life out of the exhaust. The exhaust now sounds like the stock catback, but with less tone and more drone/bass. For its tiny size I expected the muffler to have less of an effect, but this is not the case.

I'm now on a mission to determine how to proceed... Not sure if a bottle style resonator would have enough effect on the slight rasp/volume to pursue purchasing and replacing the bottle muffler.

Perhaps my needs are too ambitious?

Exhaust note nearly perfect... But can you help me bring down the volume?

I had asked that prior to install and it was just a generic from one of their 'suppliers'.

Either way... My persistence has ordered a vibrant bottle resonator and sent back the ultra quiet resonator. I'll have them weld it in, in place of the bottle muffler.
