What are the dimensions of your intake and exhaust tubes (just radius will do). I'm thinking your intake may be too big or the correlation between the intake and exhaust is off (really hard to tell without actually seeing it in it's functions.
If both exhaust and intake are about the same size, try reducing the intake size and if that doesn't help try enlarging the exhaust (your goal is to create a type of vaccum) think car windows (when you have one opened wide and the other cracked) that should ideally be how the air travels in there. The heat should push itself out the exhaust(top). |

Physics wise, the gasses shouldn't have much issue escaping it's getting them to the chamber that seems to be the issue at this time. |

Need more chimney height and get the twigs up off the base so the air can go around them. The chimney height is not long enough to get the heated air moving at the velocity it needs to draw enough air into the intake. Another 4 or 5 inches should make all the difference. If you want to back pack it you could just make an extension that slips over the top and save some size.
Or...

The chimney should be three times taller than the diameter of the intake as measure from the top of the intake. Based on your drawing that leaves about 5 inches above the intake. That is about 3 inches short (that's what she said). You can also install a flapper on the intake to control the draft.

I'd make the intake and exhaust the same diameter; just make the exhaust taller than the intake is long.
OR, just lay some shaved pieces of C-4 in the firebox of what you have and light it ...... ![]() humfrz |

I've heard great things about c4. Really hot, no smoke, etc, etc. I'll cut a piece of 2.5x2.5 too and see if that one performs better(I have 2 prototypes, one with 3.5 chimney and one with 2.5)

C4 burns GREAT. Not that I could possibly know from experience or anything though.
