Thanks to Tcoat, I was able to ready the original article on the Aussie magazine. That article makes a lot more sense than the subsequent spin on other publications and news articles.

I would say Tada is on the right track, looking to address the exact weakness of the Toybaru, ie poor quality and abysmal ride, in the facelift Of course, a little more power and body stiffness are always welcome. I also wish they would put in a bigger fuel tank, but I can live with that shortcoming.

I wonder what changes will the factory make to accomplish the aforementioned improvement? My guess is:

(1) Increase body stiffness: probably another big bolt or thicker panel somewhere. Besides, there are many reinforcement bars available, including a set by TRD. The factory may selectively add some reinforcement bars and substitute some thicker panels here and there.

(2) Better quality: probably employing more robots in the assembly-line. I am really looking forward to less rattling and squeaks. Unfortunately, expecting the factory to cure the oil burning problem may be wishful thinking.

(3) More power and torque: there are already factory editions (for racing) that develops more power and torque. Is it just re-programming, or perhaps also better airflow management?

(4) Smoother ride: this is going to be interesting. Personally, I think the basic suspension design is fine; the poor ride is probably attributed to insufficient suspension travel and (too) tight valving of the rear shock absorbers. If they would only increase wheel travel by about 15mm and loosen up the rear shock absorbers. Whatever they do, I hope they keep the rear lower control arms, because I love the Velox rear lower control arms and I want to keep them.

I am not disappointed that turbo-charging is not part of the face-lift. Turbo charging and some form of hybrid will likely come with the FT-87, let's enjoy the last n/a engine while we still can.
