Which helps in reducing noise, Catt or resonator?
Which helps more in taming a loud exhaust, having two resonators in the fp or having a catt and a resonator in the fp?

Resonator. By far. Just look at the sound output of Fujitsubo front pipe (resonated) versus Berk front pipe (catted) -alex |

As for other catted + resonated front pipes, I was able to test out the Apex'i one recently.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103338 W/ only Apex'i front pipe, it was louder than the Fujitsubo front pipe. Fujitsubo was same as stock, Apex'i was about 2db louder. -alex |

I just wish the fujitsubo fp wasn't so expensive... I'm considering the HKS dual resonated fp, but i'm wondering if spending more on the fujitsubo piece for the bigger resonators are worth it?

sorry, I guess I should have started with that. I have the JDL uel catted headers and perrin resonated 2.5in catback, everything else is stock. I'm thinking of getting the JDL overpipe since you can have it ceramic coatted, and also it seems like it doesn't really matter what brand of OP you get in regards to noise. The front pipe is the only thing that's worrying me, majority of the threads I've read all say once you change out your front pipe, the noise increases dramatically especially with header, even if you have a quite catback. My main goal is just having a full 2.5in header back, as well as a little bump in performance (I realize it may not even be noticeable) without having an unbearable exhaust set up.

I was full catless with a Tomei 80r... Got the hks dual res is got a little quieter and drone went down a little. But at that noise level loud is just loud.

From my other thread I linked: Stock exhaust + Apexi header/front pipe: 85.7db Blitz VS/VSR (quiet exhaust) + Apexi header/front pipe: 84.6db Same setup w/ Tomei 60R: 106.6db Same setup w/ Blitz F-Ti (full Titanium one piece exhaust): 102.6db Ultimately the header isn't as key in sound suppression as the front pipe. The Apex'i header is a 4-2-1 catless design. -alex |
