That was my thought as well. If it had been a pot hole on the drivers side and not the passenger it could have caused an accident. Just glad no one else was in the car.

Kinda off topic here, but I am told in Canada at least we have a law regrading vehicle damage due to a poorly maintained road so if you hit a large pot hole and damage your car (say bend a tie rod) you can go to the government and they will pay to fix your car as we pay taxes to maintain roads and they dropped the ball on that so they take care of the repair. That is provided it is a reasonable claim

Something does not seem right here. Air bags are suppose to go off in an accident, not when you hit a pot hole. This is a safety issue and could have caused an accident if it happened on the drivers side.
I say file a complaint with NHTSA and let the experts look into this: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ |

Wait a second. Were you alone in the car? If you were, how come the passenger bag oppened? Isnt that one not supposed to go off unless there is actually some weight in the seat?

Do you have NHTSA on speed dial? Air bags can and do go off under the right (wrong?) conditions. The guy managed to pull those conditions off.

Or off the headliner because there was no seat belt holding you down.

The side curtains are not triggered by the seat sensor anyway. Part of their purpose is to protect a lone driver from debris and glass (or even the side of the car if hit hard enough) in a passenger side impact.

My side airbag deployed when I was hit and no one was in the passenger seat as stated above it to protect the driver also granted it just gave me a headache and cost my insurance an extra 3k but still good to know that it works
