If he's thinking of it just because it's cheaper, then he should do some research on resale value. One example is, when I bought my FR-S, my co-worker bought a $35k Volvo. 3 1/2 years later, his $35k Volvo worth less than my $25k FR-S. Your friend probably end up losing less money down the road by buying a Corolla or a Civic for $5k more.

Not going to reply to each person but NyC called me for a reason. Between mywife and I we have had 6 Mitsus and a DSM (thinly disguised Mitsu) so needless to say I WAS a fan. Here are my thoughts: 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD - My favorite car prior to the FRS. Served me well for almost 450K miles. The only real issue I had was I didn't change the timing belt after about 200K miles and even though it was warning me and I disintegrated the engine. Would buy again in a second. 2003 Lancer OZ Rally Edition - My third favorite car after my Talon. Great little DD with enough pep and pretty tight handling for DD purposes. Lasted me for 5 years and 250K miles without ever one single hic up. Not a thing ever went wrong with it. It now belongs to a guy down the street and I can visit whenever I want. 98% rust free and still has never had an issue after 13 years of Canadian winter and god only knows how many miles on it. 2008 Lancer GTS - Sweet car and my second favorite car pre FRS. 2.5 engine with gobs of DD power and tuned suspension that even for a FWD car rivaled or surpassed some of the "better" ones on the road. Loads of features and overall well done for a dressed up and factory tuned econo sedan. Lasted 200K miles and again never even a single little issue. 2012 Lancer GT - Since I was offered a smoking deal to trade in the 08 I went for it. What a rolling piece of shit that did not deserve any form of badging and should have rolled off the production line straight into a crusher where it would be smashed to little bits, burned and the remains sent into interstellar space where they could never plague mankind again. It was nothing more than a freakin' ES with a fancy grill and some leather seats. No performance, no suspension, brakes the size of tea saucers and over all the biggest turd in automotive history. I despised that thing so much I tried anything I could to trade it even though I would lose my shirt. I didn't care I just wanted done with it and the dealer just sort of said "well you should not have bought it then" (how I came about buying it is a story unto it's self though). Finally traded that waste of automotive space in for the FRS and only lost half my shirt (I now wear a crop top). Now the wife's two different Outlanders (one bare bones and the next a full packaged GT) and her RVR GT were all good and I never had any issues with them. So... Would I buy an Evo? Yes in a heartbeat even today. Would I buy one of their SUVs? Would have to see what they have done to them but probably. Would I buy any other level of Lancer? Not a hope in hell and tell your buddy to turn and walk away or Tcoat will come there and slap him on the back of the head.

I had the last of the Lancer Ralliart. I liken it to WRX-->STI...Ralliart-->Evo. Unfortunately it was a auto and wasn't that fun to drive. I loved the sound system it came with and the turbo wasn't bad. It got totaled in a roundabout (truck side swiped the entire car) and I got more money back than what I paid for so I was a happy camper. I then went full-retard mode and bought the Outlander Sport. Great price and great features but man it lacked power. It made so much noise but when you looked down at the gauges you were barely pushing 30mph. I got rid of it after about 40K and bought the Highlander (there can only be one).
Would I buy a Mitsu again? Maybe the last Ralliart but I would have to be desperate...

Right now, the only car I would buy is the Evo. But after that's gone, I'm not going to bat an eye at the Mitsubishi lineup any longer, especially the current Lancer. That car now has a rather lackluster front fascia, and with the addition of a backup camera, it now looks like it has a butt pimple on its rear fascia. It may still work, but man, that is one of the most unappealing places for a rear camera. To be fair, I don't think there was much to work with when looking for a place to mount the camera.
On the flipside, my cousin loves his Evo X (as he should) and my uncle still has his Evo IX. Outside of the Evo, I also had a friend who traded in her Nissan Versa (which gave her a lot of problems including replacing the engine) for a Mitsubishi Outlander which hasn't given her problems that I've heard of. So the quality is still there, but not so much the fun factor. |

My cousin had a 2003 Lancer OZ and that thing broke down crying at about 120k....He pretty much had it towed straight to the junk yard LOL. He could've fixed it but said there were too many problems with the car and wasn't worth the hassle. IDK, never owned any Mit products besides a Mit TV hehe.

interesting read. never owned a mitsu. they advertising a 10 year 160000kms warranty makes me think that they would be excellent vehicles. that is more than double the coverage toyota offers (3 year 60000km).
maybe the op and tcoat got lemons?

Oh there was nothing mechanically wrong with my 12. It never once let me down. It was the bait and switch of all the things they changed between the GTS and the GT. The US Gt had all the same equipment as my 08 GTS. The Canadian GT had nothing. It was literally a dressed up base model only.

I like the evo x, but share the same body as crapy common lancer out there. I would buy the ix but they are heavy modified or beat up.
