FYI I'm still using the stock catted FP. Quality of the piece is fabulous too. I think there might be a JDL catted header floating around in the classifieds too, they're supposed to be pretty nice as well.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm thinking of going with a JRSC setup next year, so I'll probably do headers and pipes at that time.

I think that's the route I'll go and maybe a CAI to pull in more air. I'm thinking a closed in filter CAI (forgot the name but I saw it in this forum somewhere
CAI will only really lighten your wallet. I'd spend the money somewhere else.

As far as headers, the simplest solution is the OFT + OFH combo. The stock tunes will leave a little HP on the table, but it's pretty much plug and play and the price is good.

At the other end of the spectrum is the ACE header and a custom tune. Best performance, but also the most expensive I believe.

That's the one I was thinking that I saw. Someone reviewed it last week and they were pretty happy with it. I will go to grim speed and look at their charts. I like the fact it moves air constantly

Cool - one thing to research a bit when you get to that point, some of these headers might not fit with some of the superchargers (can't remember if JRSC or Kraftwerks) because the header winds up in front of the motor and back down again. Just something to keep an eye on.

If you're interested in the P&L I will shortly be selling the catless version if you're interested

The biggest deciding factors we've seen are if you want to go turbo at a later date and the unequal/equal length debate.

Garage
Resurrecting this thread since it seems like a good place - and it's not that old.

I've also been digging into getting rid of the torque dip while also adding a few extra top end ponies. Stage 1 FI is also an option, but that opens so many other doors: inter-cooler?, oil cooler, maintenance, etc.

So this is what I've gathered from scavenging the forums here:

* Headers are used to reduce the toreque dip, extract extra horsepower, and/or to provide better/louder sound

* Some headers are designed to be used without a tune, although they may benefit from one. Others require a tune to ensure HP gains and safety.

* Unequal length give more lower and mid power, but can distribute heat unevenly. They are known for their boxer rumble. Equal length may give more top-end power.

* Unequal is not well defined. It could be super short and super long, or just not quite equal. This affects heat distribution.

* I've read about 4-1 and 4-2-1 different styles, but not clear if it makes a different on the current available headers.

* Catted headers will be a little more quite, but loose 1-2 HP vs non-catted. Catted is a more direct swap (O2 sensors, no CEL code), and is better for emissions (although still not legal).

For my purpose (remove torque dip, gain some HP, be quiet, have some rumble), I'm looking at the FT-86 SpeedFactory catted header. I'm also looking at the JDL Unequal Length and aFe Twisted Steel EL. I have an ECU-Tek tune, so I can get a re-tune to extract the most out of one.
