Glad you're fine.

Standing water! One would expect drainage on an interstate in a major metropolitan area to work better. There wasn't any intense rain on that day AFAIR (I live in the area)

It was at 1:30am and had just finished raining pretty hard l. The Virginia DoT really could stand some improving. The standing water bit was pointed out to me by the officer I had been talking to.

I've hydroplaned quite a few times where I live. Rain comes, and the hills and imperfections in the road create puddles at near the worst areas: loose turns, sharp turns, intersections. I've even gone through puddles that reach my bumper. I know this because there is a considerable deceleration when going through the puddle(s).

I use Michelin Pilot Super Sport Summer Tires with the stock wheels. The first time I hydroplaned I was in a very long turn, so it was very easy to get out of. The second time was during a very sharp turn, as in a 90° turn in a two-lane road, which drivers end up running over the flat inner edge because it's so tight. I must have turned too fast and my rear wheels began to hydroplane. As the angle of my car and the road increased, I steered my front wheels in the center of the increasing angle, as if it was "bisecting" the angle. My tail whipped the other direction, but considerably less in magnitude, and then I fully regained control.

This is, mind you, with the TC off by pressing the button below the shift knob for over 3 seconds. I've found that I can control a car better with it off, as situations like last night where the TC was on I was coming off the freeway on one of those 180° off-ramps and a huge patch of random grayish gravel sent my car jerking (because the TC was giving/taking away power of the back wheels) into another lane. I'm sure at least some would say that my reasoning behind the TC is flawed, but it usually takes being in the driver's seat to fully understand what was going on.

It's possible, but I usually go to the one at Foxchase on Duke Street. I'm more often heading to the Vitamin Shoppe when I'm thataway.

Sucks they had to cite you for something that major. A long time ago in a different car I drove through some black ice on the highway and spun into the guardrail, in that state they only had to issue a written warning for not staying in the lane, lol.

Sorry about what happened.

Hooray! I got the info from Erie Insurance. I'm being allotted ~$17,800, including tax and tags, less the deductible. Man, my car depreciated like hell over the last two and a half years.

Is this a new rule or just only in certain states? Been driving for over 20 years and never heard of this before.
If your accident is due to weather/road conditions, why must a ticket be given?

This is Va.
§ 46.2-852. Reckless driving; general rule.
Irrespective of the maximum speeds permitted by law, any person who drives a vehicle on any highway recklessly or at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person shall be guilty of reckless driving.

§ 46.2-853. Driving vehicle which is not under control; faulty brakes.
A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives a vehicle which is not under proper control or which has inadequate or improperly adjusted brakes on any highway in the Commonwealth.

I guess it was one of the above.

I reckon I qualify as any person.

Virginia has some harsh penalties for reckless and it's a class 1 misdemeanor so be sure to make an effort to get it reduced.
