I just want my damn car to no longer automatically play BT music. I only want it for hands free, but it insists on trying to play music. BT audio is a joke. I use the USB for music only. If I could I'd delete te antenna completely as well. Radio is dead to me.

The problem with bluetooth has nothing to do with wires or signal strength. The problem is the audio codec (SBC) is total shite which they are correcting by using APT-X. Hopefully Apple gets their shit together and utilizes APT-X in Iphone 5. Bluetooth headphones with APT-X are the future of portable audio. My guess is 3 years before widespread adoption has taken over.

In terms of overall hardware, the Galaxy S III has the best platform for audio fidelity of any phone ever made. Supercurio has already confirmed Voodoo sound for analog volume modification and the phone has a Wolfson DAC + Apt-X. Whether you use Aux, APT-X BT or USB, the phone will sound amazing. I've heard the Line-out is headphone amp compatible too but it's not confirmed yet. If all this sounds like gibberish to you then you need better headphones. Dre Beats don't count.

Audio Technica M50s are the best $100 full sized Can that money can buy.
Sennheiser HD25-IIs are outstanding portables but cost $200+.

You missed the part where I said "at this point". I'm sure things are getting better but it hasn't gone fully mainstream/full availability so I still say for now hard connect when in doubt unless you know for a fact you have APT-X connectivity.

True enough, I just wish cars had better Android integration. I'm never going back to Iphone....

For my first couple drives, I used my Galaxy Nexus for both BT music and handsfree calls. I thought music sounded OK via BT (the BRZ's speakers aren't that great anyway), but I switched to using my iPod via USB (better voice commands and it starts playing more quickly).

It hasn't tried to play from my Galaxy Nexus via BT since, and so far has always started playing from the iPod right away (while connecting to the phone for handsfree).

I got my car today and driving home I wasn't all that impressed with the radio, just listening to fm radio and my phone via Bluetooth. Them tonight I plugged in my phone and played some stuff on spotify (320kbps) and holy crap it sounded amazing. Having a good source is just as important as having a good setup, so plug those phones in people and get some high bitrate files or else you're missing out.
