Just got all my parts in for my first PC build. Should have it put together this weekend! Time for some R6:Siege and Rocket League!

I'm getting CPU temps of 70 on r6 siege on ultra settings. Running a cool master evo 212, Intel i7 4790k and a msi 970
Is this good, bad or normal? |

Sounds high. Re-seat the heat sink with fresh thermal paste. Make sure the fan is working and blowing. I usually use a credit card to get paste off.

Sorry. Been a while since I've done this. Yes, a credit card to scrape (bamboo would do too) and then a cotton swab and alcohol to get any oils and gunk off. Just make sure you get all lint off at the same time. Canned air helps, but it's not worth buying. Air dry. Then new paste. It doesn't take much paste. I usually spread it out a little, but I've heard varying theories on the right way. There are differences in paste quality, but anything more than 5 or 10 bucks is scamming you. Under load, it should probably get down to 50 degrees C. I usually just use stock intel heat sinks. They work great for anything but overclocking.

Just a pea sized drop in the center is all you need for a good even spread. Don't bother smearing it around.
There's a good video on YouTube that shows it with a piece of clear plastic.

By the way, 70c is up there but it's not in danger territory yet. You still have about 20c or so until you hit the thermal limit. What temps are you getting under a stress test? |

70c can probably lead to CPU throttling and will definitely limit things like overclocking.

CPU throttling occurs around 90c-100c and has a max temp rating of 105c on the 4790k. If he gets throttled when as low as 70c then there is something wrong with the CPU. Yes if that's idle temps it'll limit overclocking. Hell, many overclockers are comfortable licking 80c. 70c isn't a good temp and yes he should remount the cooler, but it's not a dangerous temp.
