Social Media Idiots

To Op: I don't know what's wrong with rice mobile, let alone argue about this. O.O cuz you guys are both right in ur own mind.

Pretty pointless like all internet fights. 😛

*Reads the next 4 pages full of nice ppl worrying about the kids today.*

That's very touchy but I think the biggest thing with social media is that it actually shrink your social circle (less meaningful relationships) & distance yourself from ppl that's really close to you? O.o

Nvm this is going towards politics like all good old conversations. 😂 I used to think politics in Taiwan is fuked up, but the last few months really opened my eyes... Why do people need guns to stop Muslim on this side of the pond? There is just so much wrong in most of the things I read online. Let along the concept behind it.

I can confirm this.
Unfortunately, Europe has been changing slowly for decades and there are more extreme violence and less nudity now.
30 years ago there were naked people in movies for children, and no one cared. Not so any more.
30 years ago movies with fights, blood and violent death were automatically banned for children under 18. Not so any more.

Brainy people have investigated this, and they all agree that exposing young minds to fictional violence is a Bad Thing.

The U.S. is a young country still clinging to its unhealthy puritanical, repressed roots. It's embarrassing.

Canada had the "Baby Blue" movies way back in the late 70's. Nudity is not uncommon on any Canadian channel after 9pm now.
We all turned out OK! If you don't believe me I will send my sister to beat you into agreement

When I was a kid, I watched all the violent films I could get my hands on. I was not a violent child, and I'm not a violent adult. I was not exposed to a lot of sexual content, but what I was exposed to I was not interested in. Perils of Gwendolyn, anyone? In the end, I think most kids and adults are pretty resilient. Moderation of excesses is acceptable. I need some beer!

That's really just another way of what I've been saying all along. Especially in younger folks, it dehumanizes ("distances") those one interacts with online, and that can carry over to difficulties in real life face-to-face communications. Exactly. It can also affect your writing ability...

Sorry.. that last bit was snotty.. just kiddin' around.

Best to ya,

Barry

I'm behind you with the moderations of excesses thoughts, but I think the original quote was something like "all good things in moderation," and not all excesses.. but either way, a little bit of almost anything won't kill ya, unless we're talking pit viper venom or something.

On the other hand, the "Watched all the violent movies I could get my hands on and I turned out fine" argument, while true in your case (I'll take your word for it, no problem), won't be true in everyone's case. I get a kick out of people who defend smoking by citing some great-aunt who lived to be 95 and smoked three packs of unfiltered Marlboros everyday. Yes, it can happen, but it's hardly a logical argument for ignoring the proven dangers of smoking.

Now, where did I put my second bottle of Scotch for today?

Barry
