I won't sass you like these others about being 17 and daddy buying you a car. If your getting great grades, hopefully in hard sciences as opposed to, say, English, maybe you deserve it.

I will point out a few things though. The car your looking at is probably going off the first stage of warranty in less then a year. I'd get a Carfax on it or any used twin you get. Good idea on anything actually.

If you read these forums, you'll note how people have bought used twins and discovered that the cars are not stock with problems ensuing. If you read the "Car Parts For Sale" threads, a constant theme is "I'm getting ready to dumb this thing and am reinstalling the stock parts. Who wants to buy my XXX parts??" What do you think that means??

Do learn all about tires, not wheels so much, but tires. Do learn how to change oil, filters, brake pads, etc and keep the receipts. Do take the car to a safe place like a parking lot if you can and test it's limits... especially in the wet. Do try and get some time on a track if possible. Do come here and ask questions. Don't let your buddies drive the car or con you into doing something stupid. I used to be a teenager so ask me how I know lol.

Good luck with your purchase!!

I remember when I was 17 that I lusted for a big 4 wheel drive Chevy Silverado with the big V8 as my 1st vehicle. My dad agreed how nice the Chevy was. A few days later ... I see this Blue Mazda B2000 2 wheel drive truck sitting in the driveway. I asked dad whose piece of shit is parked in our driveway. My dad replied that was MY POS.

Reasons: teenager son's 1st car. less money, fuel efficient, less insurance, less power possibly being safer (debateable). Also ... I paid for half of that POS.

the problem with the BRZ is that you kind of get spoiled. i bought mine a couple years ago, and it is somewhat impractical for a family man. however, i am now spoiled by the sporty feel and handling. even sports sedans like the bmw 3 series feel floaty in comparison. i'm not sure you want your first car to ruin all your later choices

God damn. You're 17? As the generations come by...

When I was 17, I only got a hand-me-down 1992 Toyota Corolla from my parents. Then I worked and saved up my own money to finally buy my own car.

But seriously though, get the BRZ if it's what you want, there's really no need to ask. Just don't do anything stupid to make us look bad, I think we already look bad enough already.

Have fun driving.

Why do so many feel the need to harass somebody because of who is buying their car?
So what if their father is buying it? What does it matter that they don't pay for it themselves?
"When I was your age..., "Nobody ever bought me anything, I worked for it" and "I had a POS for a first car and I am a better person for it" comments just amuse me. Woe is me I had to buy my own car and everybody else should too.
There are people with money that buy their kids things and nobody should care.
End of story.

Man, I grew up so dirt poor, Canadian redneck that I joined the Army at 17 to get out of it (in an era when nobody joined the Army except dirt poor, Canadian rednecks). I get the jealousy part but damn, ever time some poor guy says somebody is helping them buy a car 100 people jump on them. Pretty sure that many of those guys are a whooping 25 years old or so themselves.

Haha, it's all good I mean I don't really feel harassed at all, people are just surprised someone my age is getting a car like this versus what they got at their age which is understandable. The only thing that somewhat annoys me is there are a few people who seem to think I'm not grateful or something or I should be happy driving whatever. I am really grateful and I know a lot of people are definitely not nearly as lucky to get to own a car like this, let alone as a first car.

Not just you it is every young guy that gets jumped if they even hint that somebody is helping them get the car. It isn't like it is a Ferrari, Corvette or something. It is an inexpensive, quasi sports car. Why is it OK for your parents to buy you a 5 year old Corolla or something but one of these is such a big deal? It truly baffles me.
