And I'm guessing that's because all of those Subaru motors are turbo.

Like others have said, with proper maintenance, there really shouldn't be anything to worry about.Honestly, that goes for almost any car,no matter who makes it.Usually it's the other crap that goes out, like the alternator, fuel pump, clutch, you know, the stuff that you really can't maintain, only replace when they take a shit. The motor on 99% of cars are the least of anyone's worries.

I've got over 30K miles... on my 2nd motor. 115K on the chassis. Beat it up and it will blow. But that's pretty much the case with 99.9% of cars ever made.

Why was this thread made again? How long will my Samsung TV last?

Think that's the point of the post. You rarely hear about the good and always hear about the bad. Someone doesn't just randomly post and say "hey guys, I've done 8000 miles and my motor is ok!" Someone posts to say "hey guys, I've done 8000 miles and my engine exploded!"

That's the downside with forums, particularly enthusiast forums. The only time you really ever hear about anything is when stuff goes wrong. But it's such a small part of the consumer base on here, and that's what needs to be kept in mind.

Well, now @SpidyJ ...... there ya go .......

Your grandson will be of driving age in 8 years. So, keep and drive your car for another 8 years and then give it to your grandson as a 16th birthday present.

It will still be a "cool enough" car for him and it's relatively safe, for when he has his first accident.

Then junk it, it will have served it's purpose.

There is no way a toyota wont serve you till at least 300k. If you mess around with the engine and increase the HP with non authorized dealer parts then yes that would be the reason, but if you dont mess around with it and change oil every 10k it will serve you till at least 300,000 kms. This is no Hyundai. Someone explained to me why Hyundais are cheaper to buy, they basically use less material in the cars components to bring the price down, so initially its cheaper but the maintenance factor is much higher on it. Compare a japanese cars dynamo to a korean cars dynamo for example.

My last car was bought new just a few months after my son was born. I kept it that whole time and he got it when he turned 16 just a few months ago.

Then why does Hyundai have BY FAR the best warranty in the industry? I'm guessing they aren't loosing money fixing broken cars, they are making money not fixing anything.

But yeah "someone" is always a good source of info. BTW someone told me the ocean is green and the sky is blue! And the GT86 is a Subaru, not a Toyota.

I love driving this car but I am a worry wart about engine failure..speshully since this motor revs so high (my driving habits for this car).

I wonder if I should buy an old man/woman car like a Honda Accord V6 Coupe.

With maintenance easily 150k-200k. With a good driver I say 200k-250k. I've never seen iirc a boxer engine last more than 250k without having a gasket issue or needing to be opened up. IME!!!!

I think being a bit Toyota 200k is no sweat.

Search Craigslist or Cars.com and look at non turbo Subarus. Countless models with well over 150k miles on them. Living in Colorado I see over 200k all the time. Keep in mind this is a new motor though, so there's no history on this one yet. All fortune telling.

I heard that since our pistons lay sideways, that the lower side(toward the ground) wears out faster because there's more weight on it.

From what I've read on this site, on the lower end of longevity your engine will likely blow tomorrow but on the upper end your engine will last for 1.7 million miles.

Even if your engine blows up tomorrow, it can't be more than $10k to replace, can it? FA20 engines are being sold online from $2.5k used to about $6k (almost) new. Here: http://www.maperformance.com/fa20-en...hortblock.html it appears you can get at least all the parts for just over $6k.

In 15-20 years I plan on replaceing the engine anyways with hopefully something with better fuel economy, and a higher rpm limit like the http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/01/...ynergy-brz-v8/ , and then maybe de-tune it for more of a stock feel and to increase the longevity of the engine.
