Just my thoughts. The T30 turbine is often coupled with compressors too large to work really well without relatively sluggish response. The GTX3576R is a beast. Likewise, the GTX3071R is a great match. Not a big fan of the GT3076 options because the ported shroud housing can be kinda unresponsive and still surges. I love the NS111 wheel coupled with a 60mm or 64mm compressor. It spools fantastic! I don't really like the GT2871r variants. I think they spool late, and produce meh power results. Of course, every engine breathes a little differently. But I love that Garrett made the GTX2967r. that sounds like a beast of a turbo!
The high trim T30 wheel has been used with huge compressors because it flows really well, but the large compressors just aren't a good fit. Sure, they work. But there are better options that a lot of people won't even look at because they see a certain size turbine and think "Big turbines are laggy" but they don't have to be. A good flowing turbine is essential for power production but the higher moment of the larger wheel can power a larger compressor with less backpressure. Sure, there is more inertia, which slows response, but there is more leverage to turn the compressor. Lower backpressure increases VE, which makes the engine spool the turbo faster. In a lot of cases, this larger turbine can spool faster than the smaller one! It's a deep subject, but I wouldn't be scared to try something new. |
