Living in Ohio where summer is ~90ish and winter can see sub zero temps. Going EFR turbo right now. Already on E85. Debating between a 0w30 and a 5w30 from either Motul or Amsoil.

Why would I pick one over the other. Looking for advise from those with similar seasonal temp swings.

Sorry haven't been on in a while, probably around 8K miles. I've also been running the avo turbo since 2K miles of owning the car (Original owner).

Thanks. Any signs of oil leaks on the car? I recently encountered one where the timing cover, valve cover, and valve block meet. I'm going to just seal over the leak instead of tearing down the block

The elevated oxidation is common when using ester based oils such as the Redline I was on. Apart from that all the other areas looked normal....and even the TBN was still in the healthy range so that's good.

Anyway I've replaced the oil to Penrite Racing 5w30 which has high zinc for added protection. Since I don't track the car I was advised that it's not necessary to go any higher than 30 weight. Will do another UOA in around 3000 miles time to see how it copes.
Sorry I missed this, but good research!

Are you talking about the plate where the extra oil pump for the turbo goes? if not that same plate behind the cam block tends to leak after some time, I just put grey rtv silicone when installing and then again around the edges where the plate meets, the only minor leak I have is from the turbo oil line on top of the turbo.

I suggest everyone running 0w20 to go talk to their local dealer and ask service on how many blown brz/frs turbo/SC that came in. When I was picking up 5w30 for my build they asked me what car I was using it in. I told them I was boosting the brz and service manage right there said finally! I asked why and he said they are flooded with kids boosting and blowing up main and rod bearings in their cars. I only replied with experience saying number 1, all turbo subaru cars are 5w30 and number 2 I never saw a turbo car run 0w20 from the factory.

This is a very important indicator. I asked my tuner and was informed I should be find running the 0w20 with my supercharger. Just not so sure this is the best idea! Thanks for the info. I will hopefully be running close to 300whp on Sprintex 335 Supercharger.

Thoughts?

I would recommend run 5w30 or 10w30 to be on the safe side. My shop told me to use 10w30 on their kit since is HOT in AZ.

Exactly 5W-30 should be the minimum for any FI application along with an oil cooler, down here in Florida it's common to see ambient in the very low 100's and a high average of 95'ish during summer. The people boosting and running thin oil most likely don't understand how oil pressure drops due to their weight oil and higher temps.

Reading through the forums regarding oils and fluids has led me to think I might want to change all my fluids at the same time to either Motul or Amsoil. I have approx. 8 free oil changes left at the dealership, but I'm thinking with going with forced induction soon, I might want to just keep going to my performance garage for all my maintenance going forward. It seems like it might get complicated continuing on with the dealership maintenance.

I found this thread useful:

I've decided to stick with 0W20 running an oil cooler until my free oil changes are over. Then I will look at running 10W40 or 5W30. @CSG_Mike said I should be fine with an oil cooler.

I'm just mimicking subaru entirely by looking at the wrx. Using to wrx oil/water balancer cooler and wrx oil. I will never see the track or I'll get an wrx oil cooler. The nice part about the wrx oil/water balancer is oil temps warm up hell a faster.

That and rather not be a beta tester for super light oil and boost.
