Why would you buy an alienware desktop? It's basically just a Dell PC with fancy lights and all components soldered so you can't upgrade parts without paying Alienware to do the work for you and buy their overpriced parts. For the price of an alienware desktop you can build two low key desktops that will both outperform the Alienware.

Now this is was not aware of, plus it's already too late. I picked up an area 51 desktop couple months back... it's stupid nice right now, been playing battlefield 4 in 4k on high settings without issue. I purchased with the understanding that I could swap out components as needed.

I had a buddy who built his own pc right when I was in the market for a new desktop. He had nothing but problems and I've never built a pc so I was willing to pay the premium for an already assembled powerhouse. I first went to fry's to see about getting them to assemble one, but I wasn't sold.

Hope this won't suck later. I wanted to add another SSD and a second gtx980 down the road when needed.

I mean for about $450 you can build something that will run games at 1080p on med-high settings at 60 fps. Spend $600 and you've got something that can play most anything at 1080p maxed out.

Last I checked Alienware desktops start around $700ish I think.
Sorry but find me any desktop with a decent GPU(minimum 660ti) for under 500$ and I'll buy 20.

Also Cheapest Alienware right now is 979$cdn it comes with a I3 processor(which is crappy-ish), no ssd, a 240w power supply (rofl that is crap), and a gtx 745. In other word you pay 1000$ for a Desktop that is less performing than my 3 year old desktop that I paid 1000$ for back then. Alienware is a terrible brand owned by a terrible company (Dell).

Hell I will gladly build any of you a one-off custom pc with custom lighting if you pay me anywhere near Alienware money(I am very serious about that, I am only 27, but have been building these things ever since you had to move physical resistances to overclock a card)

Enjoy.
Ever heard of I don't know cpu intensive games such as Civ, Total War, etc. (I mean don't get me wrong I have an I5 4670k), price was not worth it for me but I can see it being worth it for others. Also there is such a thing as multitasking. running a tri-screen setup while gaming on one, converting/editing on the other and random other activities on the 3rd one gets taxing on a CPU (up to a point I've bottlenecked my i5 a few times).

Elitists? I just don't like running 10 year old outdated hardware that make developpers have to stick to said hardware limitations meaning that they basically make games on a much lower level than their abilities and technology allows them to. I mean I like consoles(or at least don't dislike them) my main issue resides in the fact that I have seen so many games downgraded (whether graphics, resolution, textures or actual in-game physics or abilities) because they had to also cater to the console market that was back about 10 years technology wise and couldn't manage running a mid tier game

No it isn't it's because it makes no financial sense to program a game twice. unfortunately, the casual gamer marker (consoles mostly) is a big part of the market. In order for a game to be profitable, they need to cater to both casual and non casual gamers. Since consoles don,t have the hardware to run things as high as PC's can they then have to downgrade their games to ensure they are accessible to the whole market segment. Meaning they design games to run on consoles not on the PC as if they would push PC technology to it's limits, no console would even come close to running the games decently.

I may look through it to see if there is any DLC I don't have.
Or you cvould buy through Kinguin and pay much less than whatever steam is charging (or I should say overcharging for it). Think I paid 40-45$(cdn) for my pre-order when it was announced at E3.

Don't get me wrong they can be decent/great pc's but they are overpriced.

I assume you friend has little to no experience in building rigs (most likely has a faulty/defect part or has no idea what he is doing and is unable to troubleshoot to figure out his issue/issues, which can range from hardware things like bent pins to software/mobo things like incorrect c state power saving profiles).

Do hope you enjoy your rig and the game once it comes out. Veterans/memorial day next week, no work = fallout 4 ))))))))))))))))))

I pretty much only by from Steam when things are on sale, so yes, you can normally beat their regular prices. That particular weekend they had Fallout on sale for well over 50% off as I recall (which could be completely wrong, as June was way too long ago...)
