"Gaming"

In this day and age, I don't even find a need to overclock the processors anymore and I run an i5-3570k and a GTX 680.

Granted the graphics card was $500 new from EVGA, it still runs games at max settings full 1080p for several years now. Anyone who cheaps out on the video card will quickly find out how fast it will get dated. The top end models last a long long time.
I must say I do not miss the days when I had to go get a new video card every, single time a new game was released.

Yea I followed that same pattern for a long time. At one point I could follow the "lineage" or "evolution" of my gaming PC back almost 15 years to the very first computer I built.

No. I'll crack a beer, hop on the recliner and join you since we're not "elitists" like the PC guys are.

h.265 encoding. 'nuff said.

My entire blu-ray and hd-dvd collection is sitting on a storage server in either h.264, or h.265. Which is available via phone/TV/whatever with an easy to use interface (No PC required!). And when I say the entire collection, I'm talking ~1000 discs. It's naturally taken many years to get there, but the extra cores on the i7 definitely make a huge difference in encoding times.

Honestly, I couldn't play this type of game on a console if I wanted to, consoles frustrate me to no end in this genre. Having "grown up" gaming with a keyboard and mouse, controllers feel like a step back to an Atari 2600 to me.

It's hard to make the transition when you have literally 1000's of hours dating back 30+ years with a keyboard and later keyboard/mouse.

I even tried to play through FallOut 3 on a PS3, but got so frustrated with it after about 30 minutes, I gave up. I do play other games on consoles. There are games, mostly sports games, that I definitely prefer consoles for but first/third person games, no thank you.

I also like the ability to pause the game, minimize and do something else on the computer then pick it right back up. I often leave the game running in the background for days on end.

My record was with Skyrim. It was open on my desktop for more than 3 months without actually shutting it down.

Same here. I've also been known to play a game and at the same time watch Netflix or TV on another screen....

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Not elitist here. Can sit at computer, headphones on, play game and be left undisturbed while wife watches her "shows" on the tv.
Have owned pretty much every console made since Pong (yes even Dreamcast) as well as the 'puter games.

Yet another valid argument for getting an i7! This makes me happy.

Lol that's a good infographic, but PCs are still for nerds. I'm a geek too (hell we're 3 pages deep into a Fallout thread here) and I have a Mac, which forces me to game via console.

The real argument PC users should be making here are mods, that's the one thing I miss out on with a console.

It's not the same for everyone, but I sit at a desk all day, I've never sat at the computer desk we have at my house (wife uses it). I much prefer my couch with my 60inch tv and my 5.1 surround
