The first step to learning is researching, you didn't show up at school and shout "Teach me how to write my name!" and just get handed a slip of paper and told "Copy those shapes" did you?
When the questions you ask are fundamentally answerable by clicking in a few obvious places and doing some googling you're going to get shit for not even taking the basic steps towards learning on your own. Ichi linked you to some solid places, I would point you directly to here as well: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81493 |

The first step to learning for YOU is research. Maybe the first step for me is asking questions. Are you telling me your way is better? Why so? So I start a thread and ask what is the bolt pattern for an FR-S wheel. Why does anyone who doesn't want to answer my question feel the need to tell me to do some research first before asking my question? Am I taking resources from the forum? Bandwidth? Am I preventing others from doing their work? Seriously, am I in any way, shape or form taking anything away from the operation of the forum by asking a question without "enough" research? Or is it more that some people feel the overwhelming need to look down on others? How is it your business to tell me or anyone else what to do? If what I post bothers you like that, ignore me. I'm not disturbing the peace. What if I want to start a new thread on the subject? You judge that not a worthy enough reason? What if I want to engage forum members because I'm a newbie? Again not a good enough reason for you? Who exactly are you to give me shit about anything? Do you know anything about me? Do you know anything about my capabilities? Or are you someone who gives people shit when they "deserve" it? I'd really like to know. (And not you specifically, strat61caster.) Last edited by joe strummer; 11-01-2015 at 06:35 AM. |

No one is belittling anyone, let's step back and take it easy here, this is an international forum that allows anyone's response to a question. If they answered OPs question offensively within reason let it go the mods would've taken care of it. On LITERALLY every single forum there's going to be people that say the answer is already there so do MORE research because someone didn't look hard enough (in this case it's true) Every thread like this will end this way by being linked to another thread with the question already having been answered. Especially super common questions like, how should I mod for best power, how do wheels fit, how can I go faster on a track etc. They've already been answered and if someone had the goal of even looking for the answer they would've googled the question they had and found the answer somewhere on the internet especially this question. Forum posts are supposed to be a last resort, and OP didn't do that in fact he already asked an extremely similar question a year ago and got almost the same answers: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77114 He even responded he would look into the threads people told him to look at obviously to know avail a year ago, strat61caster is giving him a legitimate answer if you think about that stuff.....

Stay naturally aspirated and gains are quite mild but you can probably get 90% gains NA for about $1000 ( catless header/tune/E85/drop in filter) about 200 wheel hp (fit yourself) Turbo or Supercharger will thats going to cost more, you can probably go about 7-9psi boost about 250 wheel hp but much better torque than NA . somewhere around $4000+ (fit yourself) At low boosts you can probably get away with stock driveline components stock clutches not blow the auto trans ect stock radiator ect if you drive sensibly on street. An oil cooler will be an additional extra needed for prolonged hard driving or track work. An oil cooler on any boosted car especially turbo is highly recommended especially in warmer climates. After that cost escalate dramatically if go more boost (over 10psi) you getting past the limits of standard components and reliability and longevity will suffer as you start to need to upgrade engine and driveline components. Precisely, and they're the people I have an issue with. How is it their business to tell the poster what to do? They should just shut up and go away. You really think the poster didn't think of doing some research? Fortunately, there are also some cool dudes (like steve99) who will answer the poster's question without any BS. "Forum posts are supposed to be a last resort...." Why, because you said so? What if they are someone's first resort? If a responder has nothing constructive to say, why can't they just not post? Are they really trying to instruct the OP? Or is it just self-serving tripe? Last edited by joe strummer; 11-01-2015 at 08:14 AM. |

Everyone have question that wish to be answered. Fine, but there's right way to go through this. Do quick search & see if you can find the answer. Need more? ask more detail question & avoid vague question to get specific question answered. Expect some smartass replies. It's Internet, there's is always some smartass members always posts, don't take it to heart & don't reply. I'm saying all this calmingly & non smartass voice. Dude, presumably you are a grown up now, it is nobodies job to give you answers, especially here. People value topics of new and interesting things, not the guy who comes in and asks a question already answered a thousand times, you added nothing to this forum so you got told to fuck off back to square one. Your post asking which way to turn a screw to tighten it pushes down another members oil analysis thread or troubleshooting a unique problem, if every post that could be answered with a Google search was immediately posted and flooded out the valuable content the people contributing would leave because the forum cares more about talking someone out of or into a rocket bunny kit than an aerodynamic analysis of the car to find the best aerodynamic improvements possible. Forums like this get traffic and add value to the community only if they attract intelligent contributors who make this site a wealth of knowledge from the bottom up. Posts like this take away from that goal. Your momma done goofed, you learn the alphabet first, crawl before you walk, walk before you run. |

You yourself said you don't know much yet you are talking turbos already. All that comes across in your original post is that you know some parts names but have no clue how they interact or the level of skill needed to choose, install and maintain them. The level of mods that you are considering go way beyond slap it on and call it a day. When people are saying to "research" they are not necessarily saying do your own evaluation on each part but telling you that you need to understand what all of it means and is it really something you want/need. You need to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run and when you come and say you are ready for full out marathons yet can not even get onto your feet yet you come across as a fool (not calling you one it is just a perception). Read what is here and elsewhere, learn some basics, truly understand everything involved and then enter into informed and intelligent conversations with questions that have value and I bet your responses are much different. On a related note you really need to ask yourself why you want turbo in the first place. Are you planning on tracking, is it a DD only, a hard parking show piece? Nothing wrong with any of those if that is what you want but you need to know why you want these mods or it is just mods for the sake of mods and you will never completely enjoy any of them.

@Tcoat I get it. It wasnt a cocky remark. Just an observation. All the negative nancies aside the jackson racing supercharger looks pretty tempting. I have decided against the turbo. Its a daily driver right now but I can agree as well as anyone else that the car is underpowered. Gotta look into of there are any tracks in washington thats where im moving. Been reading up on all the threads people posted on this and have got a general idea of what im wanting to do

Well it is an "observation" that either should be kept to yourself or you need to be prepared for the results it could produce. Good! Oh, and as a non argumentative side note. Not everyone feels the car is "under powered". Although I fully appreciate that some want more power for whatever reasons when driving mine as a DD I doubt I have even used it to 80% of it's capacity much less felt I needed more at any point in time.

@Tcoat yeah ive put about 15k miles on mine so far. Didnt do a ton of freeway driving but where im moving too Ill most definately be able to use the highwaya more for commuting to work and weekends. I am hesitant to push my power goal over 300-350hp just due tobthe fact that its an automatic. I got a buddy who worked on subies(had a sti pushing 500hp) and he said thats a decent number and thinks the auto in the frs should be able to handle it. Someone recommended I check out Starks transmission cooler if I want to achieve that power so as to not fry the tranny. I think SSP offers a better torque converter as well that I need to check out
