Were you able to listen to the videos? Looks like OP retracted them.

I have no idea what the problem is.

No but from what the guys are saying I have the same symptom, mines a 2015 with 8000km and on cold starts while letting it warm half way you hear this clatter and when you slightly Rev it it gets abit louder . at first I thought it was my engine was knocking but once I push the clutch in the noise went away. after its fully warmed up its complete gone and drives fine. Note that I started hearing it after I changed my tranny and diff oil to motul 300

Are you sure you got enough oil in the gearbox? 100% certain?

Same here. In the owners manual it even says not using the OEM fluid may cause noises in the tranny/diff.

Ok, so it is just gearbox clatter. Meh, as long as the oil level is correct...

My gearbox made that racket at times (whilst I was adjusting the clutch pushrod - in & out) even with the stock fluid ! Tried MTF2 & currently using Gear 300 & same result until you get the adjustment near perfect. Temps matter also.

Hello to all!

I made a new video today:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hThTWYqIQ5s"]GT86 Cluch noise - YouTube[/ame]

2000km ago i changed the Gearbox and Differential fluid with RedLine with the right quantity and oil type.

Noise always the same @ cold, after just 5km the noise go away.

I'm bumping this thread because I have the exact same issue (the video above perfectly demonstrates it.) Wondering if there were any further developments?

Humor me. While it's cold, with the clutch engaged, try slowly sliding each of the shift forks so you're touching each synchro. Is it possible one of the shift forks is slightly misaligned? Do you find a position where the noise disappears or changes?

As I stated earlier in this thread. It's just gearbox chatter but that last video is pretty annoying. I'd be searching for something if mine was that loud.

A lot of people suggest the throwout bearing, but my question is would that bearing make noise without depressing the clutch? I don't know enough about how things work down there to know the answer to that question. This car also only has 19k miles on the odometer, though its always possible for something to fail prematurely.

I had this problem too and what ive noticed so far is some 86 if you change the tranny oil you will get this noise. Not all but some , im thinking its the clutch flywheel. Im just gonna save up for a new ACT clutch kit and call it. It has nothing to do with the tranny since i got mines replace and mines 2015 BTW and still had that noise.

I had the same exact noise as stated in the OP with my BRZ. It had to be cold outside and before the car was to temp, 600 RPM, in neutral and clutch out. Rattling, chattering noise. Once the clutch was in or the car was up to temp, the noise stopped.

I took it to the dealer and they replaced the transmission. As far as I remember, it never made the noise again.

Did you try what I suggested?

Also, you can check for yourself whether or not it's the throwout bearing by reaching in and pulling the clutch fork forward. Just pop the hood before you start it, locate the clutch fork, start the car, listen for the noise.

Pull the clutch fork forward which ensures the throwout bearing is pulled back away from the pressure plate. Does the noise go away?

I'm open to it maybe being the throwout bearing but you would hear and feel other things depressing the clutch pedal.

It's the gearbox.

It's the gearbox.
It is very unlikely to be the TO bearing, which is only under load when the clutch is pushed in.

My TR6 tranny was way noisy and got quieter when I pushed the clutch in. It was the input shaft bearings.

Re the gearbox viscosity issue-- the viscosity decreases as it warms up, so using a higher viscosity oil would likely make the noise worse, not better. When the clutch is engaged all the gears are spinning in the gearbox but just not engaged. So it will make some noise
