Just an update:
PENTOSIN MTF2 CURED MY LIFE PROBLEMS WOOOOO Filled till overfill on jack stands, dropped the car and opened the fill hole to let it drain on the cars naturally sitting stance, approx 2.35l used. Shifting was immediately better but not perfect, one week later of daily driving it is just about perfect and feel it is going to only get better with age |

I found the same with mine. It was noticeably better (but not perfect) right away, and continued to get better over the next 500kms or so. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Not judging anyone driving style. But typically during the early startup in the morning I let the car warm up. Then through my neighborhood I don't leave 1st gear. And yes I make sure everyone is in front of me. I hit my first stop sign about 1000ft away and it just shifts easier into second. Going right into second on a cold morning is nerve wracking.

Seems like a good place to ask here. How soon is too soon to change the trans fluid? I am thinking about changing it out in the first 200-500 miles.

Anyone using Royal Purple max gear 75w90? I've used that in my MR2 with amazing results before. I've tried amsoil before, it was okay. I have tried several types of Redline and I hated them all. Redline always made my trannys feel too notchy.
But I'm thinking of using RP, anyone tried it? Any thoughts on the subject? Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk |

I've considered trying Royal Purple, but not the MaxGear. Royal Purple doesn't even recommend it. For a 75W90 GL-3 spec (which our cars have) RP actually recommends either their HPS or XPR 10W40 motor oils (not to be confused with the regular API certified oil you typically find on the shelf).

Not sure this makes much sense. Why would RP not recommend their MaxGear 75W90 oil for our cars when they say right on their site that they recommend it for manual gearboxes that require 75W90 oil? If they wanted something thinner you would think they would recommend the Syncromax (which is very similar to the Pentosin and for which I've used on BMW's for years) instead of one of their motor oils. |

It's a mystery to me as well, but I may just try it. Pentosin works great for me, but I change my MT fluid every spring, and I'd be open to a less expensive/easier to get option...if it works. Royal Purple does recommend the MaxGear for applications requiring a GL-4 or 5, but not for a GL-3 spec. It is my understanding that a 10W40 motor oil and a 75W90 gear oil are very similar in viscosity, with the 10W40 being slightly lighter in most cases (but not as light as the SynchroMax). I'll see if I can find the chart again... Edit: Here is a link...http://www.royalpurpleconsumer.com/a..._Reference.pdf

Yes sir
![]() I've used pretty much every oil and wasted 400 on the tranny. Research and development is already done for you guys haha Just remember this tranny is heavily dependent on oil fill level, 200mL overfill made a huge difference in synchro performance for me (in a bad way). Follow service manual and don't over think it like I did Last edited by 504; 10-27-2015 at 05:31 PM. Reason: Extra valuable info |

Should I wait till my break-in 1000 miles or do it ASAP?
Also, looking at Motul and Amsoil, which one would I need to get? I see that there is different types. Thanks! |

I would wait till after the brake in. After that it's up to you which brand you want. It comes down to how much you want to spend or what kind of deal you can get. I'm going with Redline just because I can pick it up at my local Napa store for less than Motul.
