I wish I knew what my IAM was on the stock tune but I'm guessing around .5. Good call on the tune, I bet your car feels way better despite having less timing.
I always thought our 95 was worse then you 91 but that pretty much confirms it, thanks

Yep, much better and very smooth. Not easy trying to MAKE power on much worse fuel then the stock tune was intended for but we managed to increase the area under the curve some while keeping IAM at a constant 1.

I have a gut feeling Toyota will release a much more conservative update to the stock tune for our market after their "investigations"...bet lets wait and see...

I had the same problem just a month ago! except my BRZ got it at 56K miles and it happened when I turn the car on. I got a diagnostic from the dealership saying 'connecting road bearings are scarred and number four is smashed'due to insufficient lubrication. Now they're blaming it because the last 'documented oil change' was done at 16K even though I took the car to the dealership a couple times more before I started doing the oil change myself and because I didn't keep my receipts... they're denying the claim.

Any advise anyone can give?

Call an attorney. Not having receipts for your oil changes is going to be hard to work with, but the dealer will have to prove negligence if they're denying your claim.

you are definitely going to be fighting an uphill battle there. I hate to say it, but i'd be willing to bet this is actually a fight you won't win. without documentation, who's to say you've ever changed the oil since your last 16k checkup (i'm sure you have btw). sorry buddy.

Yeah... it's retarded. I'm digging for some of the receipts, which it's clearly going to tell them that I put the oil in the car. Even the technician said 'I know you do your oil changes because you have a better oil filter in the car'.
So I'm fighting them on the part where they're pretty much saying Insufficient Lubrication + No Documentation = Owner didn't change the oil.

Seems to be a recurrent type of failure that I've read around here more than once. Sure wish Subaru would come clean. Only advise I can give is to find the receipts! Did you use a credit card? If so, pull all your statements. Did you get your oil from the same store? Maybe they have a record.

Unfortunately without proof they have you over a barrel. Nothing wrong with doing your own oil but you need to be prepared to prove it if you wan to collect on warranty.

I still think a number of these engines are dying due to excessive silicone floating around in them.

First pic is of all the crap that was half blocking the oil pickup strainer and 2nd pic is a half blocked oil gallery due to to much sealant.

As mentioned before this motor only had just over 4000km on it and was just showing the first slight signs of oil starvation in a couple of spots.

That is why everyone with a case of engine failure should report it to the NHTSA.

If enough people file, a recall could result. Having an engine seize is a safety issue and if it is due to a manufacturing defect, the NHTSA will make Subaru come clean and cover the cost of a new engine.

This!!!!
A lot of people don't follow through with this when they have a problem so
the time table for an official fix is way way longer

This happened to a buddy of mine and he went to the parts store and had them pull receipts for the oil and filters he had bought -- took that printout to the dealer and they did the warranty.
