rubber stopper works too

For those of you who shop at Home Depot and can't find the described plug, I used a rubber stopper. I got the 15/16 x 11/16" size but it is too big, so I ended up using a 13/16 x 9/16 plug I had.

It isn't mentioned on the posts I saw but when you look at the hole from the passenger side you see the end of the sound tube inside a rubber grommet with a flexible membrane between the outer and inner diameters. I pushed the sound tube thru the grommet and then inserted the stopper.

When viewed from the firewall side with a mirror the end of the stopper can be seen sealing off the inside of the grommet, insuring that water will not go in when driving in the rain. Just leaving an open hole in the firewall is not a good idea.

Haven't driven the car yet so I can't comment on the sound difference, but as I intend to change the exhaust a little quieter is probably a good thing.

Just an update-- the car sounds better to me with the tube disconnected.
The sound tube was kind of fake at low to medium revs and at high revs was very thrashy. Better off without it.

Just plugged my hole.. after going turbo, so I didn't need the intake cap, just a way to plug up the cabin!

Anyway it was in the pipe section at my local Home Depot.

Hello everyone !!

I just did this on my 2015 and I'm very happy... The sound change is subjective and may not be for everyone...

I also found the cap from an empty gallon jug of coolant work as a perfect plug until I get a new inlet air tube...

Thanks for the tip!

Great DIY. Used it to cap the sound tube intake hole.

Thanks for the DIY. Definitely a more natural sound. I ended up using a 1/2" hard plastic plug (Lowe's) inside the rubber grommet in the passenger footwell. Couldn't get the 3/4" to fit for some reason...

Thank you for this! Saved me well over 100 dollars on an intake tube. Now that money can be put towards other mods!

When I installed my K&N intake I took out this part of the sound gen, but not the entire tube. Would it be more beneficial/sound better with the rest taken out?

Beneficial in way of a bit more roomy and cleaner underbonnet space and slight weight savings when doing complete sound tube deletion. I wouldn't throw out it, but keep in some drawer for when in few years you are going to sell it. Buyers may have different sound preferences then you, so it doesn't hurt to keep stock parts around imho.

The weight savings is insignificant. It's a 100% aesthetic change, both visually and aurally.
