That's because the car was not really low on oil. Did you see your rebuilder add 4 qts to the car? Probably not, because it was not really low on oil and they are lying thru their teeth. Or he failed to install the oil control rings so it really did burn that much-- still his fault.

The rebuild included new pistons, right? Therefore new rod bearings. My knowledge of such things is not extensive, but it the bearing shell was defective or not installed properly it would starve for oil, fail, and eventually seize.

When you rebuild an engine you are responsible for a major mechanical failure like this.

You can see what this outside shop supposedly found, but I suspect its BS

Do you know any good mechanics for other types of cars? Or maybe post on this forum for a reference. You might be hiring him as an expert witness to inform the judge of what the facts are.

Do not be afraid of court-- its your recourse when someone tries to screw you.

And personally I would not want this guy to "rebuild" my engine again. You want a cash settlement to have a competent person do it.

Sounds like this guy is hiding the fact that he has been participating in the new underground street fad called "Reverse Magic".

I bet you anything that when he said "5th to 2nd" that it was really 5th to reverse. That's what they do. They meet up in secluded areas and then see who can go two blocks forward and then reverse back. First one across the start line wins. They play for titles and when they break something - they try to claim insurance.

They live their lives 10 seconds at a time and then they re-live it again going backwards. They usually hold onto an extra bottle of nos to launch backwards.

****UPdaTe*** So today we went in i talked to the shop owner i told him it wasnt right that my car lost the oil he said the sent the engine to the best subaru specialists in anaheim ca and that they said it was textbook hot short and it was due to driving style and because i didnt change the oil at 1000 miles he said that according to the owners manual and even at subaru that on a rebuilt the shop only half breaks in the engine at 250 miles and that i shouldve known to do the oil change i told him i would have changed the oil if he had let me known but he kept saying he did when he didnt we argued back and forth and he just kept mentioning prices of the things id have to pay in order to get the car running again through them @about 4k

I'm curious, in the 3000 miles you put on the rebuild did you ever bother to check the oil yourself?
