Its supposed to be much much lighter than the frs (sub 2,200) and with a wheelbase as small as that the 2+2 will only be for insurance. Toyota should make this a 2 seater coupe or roadster, whatever they may make it.

I don't like the front facia and the hood bulge but aside from that I love love love the idea for this car. Being an FT86 fan from day 1 of the concept but being unable to afford one, this is perfect for me. If they gave it more FRS like headlights it would be perfect!

I can't agree with this more. It would cost so much to get the FRS down to 2160 lbs, but to get the S-FR to 200hp would probably cost far less. What's crucial is that they make it a fun motor. Not super powerful but fun to rev like the 1.6 liter 4A-GE. Make it Toyota!

I think this could be a double edged sword for the 86 owners.. A lot of people (well that I know) came over from the miata to the 86. Now with this even more lightweight car that resembles the miata a lot more might actually get quite a bit of people to leave their 86's which in reality toyota may end up killing off the 86 because the sfr is taking in more revenue. Or it could be the complete opposite. The sfr could release and then no one buys in because it wasnt what they expected it to be. When the 86 came out it was revolutionary, a lot of japanese manufacturers werent making lightweight coupes like the 86. I believe because of the 86 more manufacturers are considering building a lightweight coupe like the 86 to compete with it. Unfortunately mostly toyota keeps trying to make an even lighter coupe. I believe with either just the release of the 86 is making more companies start going back to their roots like how mazda said they might make a 50th anniversary rx7. or how nissan dropped the isx model on us in hopes to compete with the 86 yet I dont think theyve decided to make it. I bet a lot of people will see this post and just go TLDR and say im talking just a bunch of jibberish. AND THEY WOULD BE RIGHT! I am talking jiberish. But this is the internet and I get to say my opinions and get flamed by everyone except for 1 person. Anyways by now im also just rambling on so its time for me to end the post......

end.

Well, they're not wrong.

I was expecting new MR2 or Celica GT-Four... but instead, they're bringing Cappuccino.

O'well. I got my BRZ, I'm good. lol

Haha, I think I like the looks of the 86 just slightly better than the ND Miata, but I agree with the rest.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 1.5 was the same engine in the miata. The chassis could also be a slightly stretched miata chassis. Cause I'm sure the mazda 2/scion ia isn't the only thing coming out of the toyota-mazda partnership.

Well for the looks, is each and their own. Some ppl likes BRZ looks more than FRS. Same goes w Miata.

I have test drive new ND few weeks back. It's a great car and I can say it's can be a fun car... but didn't get exciting as the twins.

Have you watch all the review for ND? Do you see much excitement from the drivers/journalists? They're stating ND is faster than the twin and/or it's a kit car... but I don't see them giggling as much as when they reviewed the twins. They couldn't stop smiling/giggling. Same goes for me. I can see that ND is fun car and it's great formula for gearheads... but it simply ends there for me.

What is the S660 competing with... bicycles?

BTW I wasn't having a go at S-FR. They both look like exciting vehicles to own. It is just funny how much smaller they are getting and a class below the S-FR which is below the Miata... its just wtf... is it bicycle territory already?

If it's cheap enough, I don't think it'll be a problem to have both in the States. The Miata and FR-S both start at around 25K, which is in the price range for most people who have the buying power to purchase a Camry/Accord/Mazda6.

If they can slot one in at Corolla/Civic/Fit/Yaris pricing, you can reach a broader demographic. If they can undercut everyone in the RWD space, they'd make out like bandits here. For people who need more space or power, dealers can funnel people to the FR-S.

I think at the end of the day, it comes down to whether or not Toyota wants to bring it state-side. Hell, Toyota sold the xA side-by-side with the xB1, and Yaris for 3 years. It mostly worked because they all looked extremely different. To non-car people, that's enough to separate otherwise mechanically similar cars.
