I have updated post 2 to include a more conventional canyon road for more data points for those that are interested.

These runs (east grade) were also done very soon after running the very demanding road above (south grade). You may notice that the oil temperatures on the WITH cooler logs are decreasing. This is the cooler doing its job and dropping the oil temperature which were elevated by the very aggressive road driven prior. In the logs above, you will notice approximately a 11 degree max difference in oil temperature. In the more conventional canyon road below, you will notice after the cooler stabilizes the oil temperature, a more significant 20 degree drop or more. I think this is more representative of what a typical canyon driver will see, if not more, since this road is still being driven quite aggressively.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions.

It's definitely more indicative of real world. 99.99% of people will never hit > 200F water in a moving car.

Traffic does not count because you fix that with software.

Good write up and well documented.

When I make the leap - I am putting in the AVO system but this looks suitable for a pretty straightforward install.

First logs are palomar south grade uphill. Second logs were east grade.

Would this work in turbo applications or should I just get a standard oil cooler?

I think that depends if the turbo utilizes the lines I tapped for cooling the turbo.

It will be fine if you never plan on going on track. Kind of defeats the purpose of adding more power if you don't go somewhere you can drive hard, so the answer is no. Get some kind of proper laminova setup or air cooler with thermostat.

Either this or a block heater or an external oil warmer!

It's not usually that bad, but it isn't uncommon to have one or two week long cold spells. I'd say it averages around -15 for the most part. Windchill excluded of course. Maybe I'll place an order for one of these.
