*Update*
So I got a promotion at work about a month ago! This means more money...which means I get to keep my Evo ![]() After I'm done paying it off I will be purchasing an FR-S, cash of course. I'm just in love with how the FR-S/BRZ look like. Thank you all for your input! |

Nice! Paying off the Evo first would've been the best choice even if you didn't get promoted. You can basically purchase a pre-owned FR-S/BRZ with the money you'll make on a private sale of the Evo and still have money for mods. It's ridiculous how well those things hold their value.
If you don't believe me just go look up how much good condition Evo VIIIs are still selling for on the market. |

Ditch Evo and install twin turbo on FRS. You won't regret it.

Just got rid of my Evo x and got an FRS (accident / not my fault). My Evo had about 380 WHP and I still don't mind the loss of power. It was hard to use the full potential anyways on the street. I'd say the Evo's handling is still pretty damn good, but the FRS feels so much lighter and fun to drive. I know what people mean now, when they say the FRS just begs you to drive faster. Like others said, only time I feel embarrassed about the lack of power is when I have to pass another car. One bad thing about the Evo is that people mistake it to be a regular Lancer.

But to the OP, you're asking this Q on the FRS forum...what do you think we are all going to vote for? The Evo X and FRS are two very different cars, but two excellent cars. It is up to you and what you want. If I was in your shoes and the FRS met my daily practicality needs and was struggling financially, I wouldn't hesitate to get rid of the X and pick up a FRS. The hardest part about selling the X is actually listing it for sale. Once you have it listed and want to sell it, you probably won't look back!

hello,
I'll just offer my advice as well. I think if you prioritize what's important then it should be easy. My advice is since you're engaged to your GF(congratulations btw), you need to start saving money for your future. Look everyone said keep the EVO because resale value is going to go up due to discontinuation but that monthly payment is probably killing your finances a bit I assume? You can always buy EVO or FR-S later when your finance situation settles down. I know you don't want to give up your EVO and maybe get a FRS, but I recommend sell the EVO, get a cheaper daily driver, save money for your wedding and future. Then, think about buying FRS or EVO. They will always be around. If you gf knows about your evo monthly payments, she will start grilling you in the coming future on how expensive it is. I hope this helped. Good luck!

I'm a bit confused. He bought the car two years ago,has 26 months left, and has astronomical payments of $630/month? He must have put close to nothing down on that car to have payment that high.
That car's list price is about $34k. After the next 26 months he would've dumped in another $16,380,which is close to half way payed off,and there's no thought of refinancing? It sounds like he got a pretty decent APR,but the mistake was a low down payment and going only for four years. He should've either ponied up more of a down payment to get lower monthly payment (let me stew for a minute to just fathom how anyone could ever agree to paying $630/month on a car that's under $50k,and think it's a good idea) or stretched out the payments another year. Very first thing the OP should do is see about getting refinanced to lower his monthly payments. It's a good car worth keeping,so regardless if he likes the FR-S or not,it seems that it would be financially beneficial to find a way to pay it off at this point. If a re-fi isn't an option, then definitely trade it in for something that's less of a strain. Personally if I were in his position,I would not get a FR-S.It's a good car,and I love mine, but saving up for a wedding,I would go for something totally practical and cheaper for now.I would suggest a Nissan Sentra. Well under $20k brand spanking new,and great gas mileage. For something with a little more pep but about the same MPG,go for the Altima. Just over $20k and an overall solid car. |
