Hope everything works out! I was almost sideswiped 2 times just today. Seems when the rain comes, Seattle drivers become even more idiotic.

Somewhere someone said people don't see these cars. After driving one for a few months I totally agree. Today I was almost a lava speed bump for an Escalade.

Sorry about the damage cohenology.

Boy, do I know that feeling. "Defensive Driving" takes on a whole new meaning in this car. Especially here in Texas where it seems at least 20% of the vehicles on the road are pickups and few people bother to signal lane changes.

Let us know how your situation comes out, and glad you're okay!

It's not necessarily bad, but you will have less leverage in negotiations since it's your own insurance company handling the claim in-house where they have more control over the expense they ultimately incur. Whether you can file a diminished value claim depends in part on what state you're in, and I'm not sure if that's done in Florida.

Did you go to the doctor for your neck and back injury? Don't just shrug off that pain you're feeling. Be sure and file a medical claim in addition to your damage claim, because you deserve to be compensated for that. And it will give you more leverage when negotiating with the insurance company.

That pinch in the right rear quarter panel is the killer. Happened to me in my GS-R about 10 years ago. Body shop attempted to pull the dent out and save the OEM fender but no luck, it buckled. Besides the cost, it's the time that hurts. Took over a month to get the part, match the paint, blah blah blah i was stuck with a Cavalier rental that smelled like a porta potty AND had to pay out of pocket for insurance. Good luck, man!

Declared total if it has frame damage or mid chassis damage. If it's all just cosmetic, then it'll be up and running within a month if your insurance kicks in to gear asap or 2-3 months if they give you the run around.

IMO totaled in terms of insurance fixing it based on the pic...

Would the fact I was able to drive it home make it any more less likely there is frame damage?

Not true. The equipment they have now can square up the bracing (there is no "frame") as good or even better than new. The single determining factor between write off and repair is cost.

Find the best shop you can. A shop that will fight the insurance company every single penny is your best defense. Usually one that will guarantee all the work they do for life is best. If you are near central florida O'Berry's Collision Center was amazing when they fixed my car.

Oh, that's heartbreaking to look at - so sorry that happened. I, too, often feel invisible in my FR-S, especially to those in big trucks...it's as if they look right over my car and don't see it at all.

Did you buy GAP insurance at the time of purchase, or did you figure the $5k down payment would cover the gap? My trade was about $5k but I spent the $800 on GAP for just this sort of crazy scenario.
