In OP's case, if the A/C is running full blast almost all the time that will take a toll on the mileage too.

Sport mode should get BETTER mileage so long as you're not trying to coast (on normal it won't engine break, allowing engine RPM to drop but rolling speed to not as the converter isn't locked up). The converter is going to be locked up at cruise anyway, but a lower speeds I'm not so sure.

Yup California Arizona and Nevada all run 91.

Excellent point, once my engine is warm I will drop to fifth gear at 35 mph, 6th at 45 mph if traffic is convenient, second nature to someone used to larger displacement vehicles but counter-intuitive to those who have spent their time around higher revving Japanese and Euro cars especially given that the FA20 does not like pulling from below 2k rpm.

It's easy to forget that it's happy to cruise down around 1.5k-2k rpm, but don't expect to put your foot down and have anything except ugly noises happen.

I meant more that a lot of people are somehow scared of the higher gears and feel that anything under 2K RPM is hurting the engine. On flat level ground, the engine will happily cruise at just over 1.5K PRM. Hell, I remember a thread about someone that only used 6th on the highway if there wasn't traffic, and would stay in 5th instead

I'm curious what the ECU is doing but he'd need to log to find that out.

Better than I got around San Fran. City driving id see low 20s. Highway wouls be about the same. Ive got a manual gearbox though...

I also have a manual. I dont drive much in the actual city itself, I drive mostly to SFSU and the most I would do in "city" driving is Brotherhood way to Lake merced.

Or if I'm taking the GF down to peir 39

What octane fuel are you using? Has this just started with your last fuel fill? Change of brand of fuel?

In my entire ownership the best I have ever averaged is 23.7, which ironically it climbed to from 23.5 while I was driving extra hard for a week. This is also with the AT which has much better mpg.

My friend's m5 is lucky to get 11

I live in Vegas, gets hotter than hell here.
My car is garage parked everyday, and I never go over 4k RPM, unless If i'm pulling in the highway or so.

I'm just wondering if its normal to have this kind of MPG... @___@

Noticed it more after I changed my exhausts.. and no I don't rev more cause of the sound. I drive the same with stocks.

Please let me knowwww T^T
I can get that on E85 in city traffic.
But these cars are very sensitive to how you drive
you need to be using the highest gear possible and light throttle to get decient economy

when you changed exhaust was that header or just catback did they use new gaskets ,

exhaust leaks at header can cause issues with 02 sensor readings but not in catback area

if your on 91 fuel with stock tune in high temps its going to knock and the ecu will pull a crap load of timing to protect motor, especially if your driving in the below 4000 rpm area all the time. and the IAM ignition advance multiplier will never reset unless you do some light steady throttle runs to above 5000. It will reduce again when it knocks enough.

if you had a tuning device we could log it and fix it

but you could try occasionally doing a couple of light steady say 10 to 15% throttle runs in second or third and jist let the rpm slowly clim to 5500 or so this will bump your iam up , untill you get more knock, but it will probably result in slightly better economy.

you logs would probably look like this iam at 0.2 instead of 1 and evry time you get on the throttle hard it knocks like crazy.

the stock tune runs like crap on 91 fuel, its not dangereous just way below optimium

Only time I get less than 25mpg is trackdays...

And I never shift below 4k..

Best I have seen is over 35mpg, 2hours on the 401 with cruise set at 110km.

This is the 3rd summer for my car with 45,000kms on it. Mileage has improved slightly over time.

Lots of highway driving can be sidetracked/skewed in terms of mpg by just a few lousy city miles.

For example, my hwy driving of over 180 miles (tracked by car) showed me getting 32.8 mpg, I drove in town for about 20 miles and my mpg avg dropped to 22.6. That's just 20miles!

I shift at 3.5k on avg. Joining hwy I shift at 4.5k-5k

if you shift around 2.5-3k, I believe, you get the best mpg. Downside is you gotta drive like a granny and take a deep breath every time you are itching to hit a 6k rev.

But....if I would have chosen a vehicle for its MPG, I would have gotten a 2015 Corolla, 2013 SI Civic or Prius. I chose the FRS for it's rich history>>>enthusiast old ae86 owner>>sporty look>>go-kart feel>>>mpg>>>room>>>uniqueness>>>boxer engine

Get a better air filter and check your coolant. You should avg 24-26 driving like that on avg temp, (60-80's) but don't forget, LV and Nevada in terms of heat, gets friggin' hot! So, your mpg will drop a bit due to car heat+a/c being on. A/C drops your mpg by 2-3mpg in my own self made observations.

And now its dropped so much from that. I know its hot and traffic stops a lot, but it really shouldnt be this low. mmm.... idk what could be the reason for this happening.
Are you using 93 gas... or lower? Avg is 20 city, 30 hwy....30+ is a gift! Tire pressure ok? In heat tire pressure should expand. Also, for my parents old Ford Windstar, when we dropped psi on tires by 2-4 we got 3-4 better mpg. Maintenance is key and slow ease of driving takes dedication. 93 gas will give you a better mpg than 91.

I've been averaging 7l/100km consistently , which is 33.6 mpg, pretty much since I have the car (6 months ago). I don't baby it, but I don't trash it either. Normal, but spirited driving style I would say. I use all the gears and the whole rev range when driving.
I once got almost 37 mpg with one tank of gas taking it easy.

I drive like that most of the time. I shift no higher than 3k rpms. I don't like to beat on my car that much. But sometimes I do like to take it on spirited drives. I'm averaging a full dedicated spirited drive (1 hour mininum) once a week now.

Yes! It's possible on semi flat or mostly flat hwy driving! None of my close buds believe me, but it is possible. Even 40mpg! I noticed I get 35-42mpg driving from Monterey to outskirts of LA without traffic but on way back I get avg 30-34mpg. I'm guessing due to the elevation changes.
