Is it just me or is the paint really shitty?

I have so many little paint chips all over my car about 2-5mm in diameter. Some small marks that i can only imagine came from bug guts or bird poop as well. I wash my car fairly regulalry so i can imagine how there could be so many of these spots just from shit or gut acidity.... Unless the paint is utter garbage. Anybody else have issues like this?

3 years into ownership I can agree. I have a few small paint chips that started rusting rather quickly. Car dents very easily too.

Unforgivably shitty. I look at the car wrong and it gets a dent/scratch and if I don't immediately send it to the surface of the sun after a wash it gets covered in water spots. If a bird poops on it I have about forty-five seconds before the paint etches.

I think because the car has very low profile, it get hit alot by rocks and debris...especially if you follow to close to the car in front of you. I highly recommend clear bra for the front end.

I do a lot of canyon runs. I won't blame it on the car, it's probably me. LOL

The paint sucks, no doubt. I have way more rock chips than I should have.

In reference my wife's 2010 Mazda 3 has many more miles and hardly any chips at all. My 2002 Tahoe with 150,000 miles has less chips than my BRZ.

This is the second car I have had with this issue. My last new car was 2005 GTO, the paint on that was even worse. Holden was not known for good paint.

Hopefully my next car (unknown at this point) will have decent paint. Most manufactures have this figured out by now. Not Subaru though.

Pat

For the 32nd time.
You can not compare these to cars made prior to May 2012 when it comes to paint. In 2012 all paints in the world were required to drop their levels VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and this changed the paints quality across the board. Since the regulations move faster than the technology required to meet them we will have to suffer with "bad" paint for a bit. Unfortunately just as they come up with paint that is really good the laws will probably change again and they will have to start all over.
Welcome to the green world folks.

More like the evil overlord world. If it works the evil overlords are going to break it so it costs at least twice as much as it did before and it will be 1/4 as good at best.

I have the satin white pearl. I once stuck a small strip of tan-colored painters tape on the trunk. Fifteen minutes later, I peeled the tape off and it pulled the clear coat with it, leaving a molted texture behind. Never putting anything adhesive on Subaru paint ever again.

Now I know plenty of people who tape autocross numbers to their car, and I don't think they ever peeled their clear coat off. Maybe the paint on my particular BRZ wasn't properly prepared for clear, which is a common cause for peeling/molting. Maybe the paint on the doors is more durable than the paint on the trunk. Or maybe there was a strange chemical reaction between adhesive of the tape and wax on the car that damaged the clear.

Do you wax your car? From like 2005+ if you do not take decent care of your paint, it begins to fade real quick. Dirt also seems to hug it more. Wax monthly and wash weekly imo.

Not so much of a problem here in western Washington.

Relatively speaking, we don't have very many bugs.

I try not to park under trees ..... so that minimizes the bird poop.

However, when along the ocean, a big ol seagull may bomb my car ..... then it’s best to wipe it off fast. Why? Because birds don't "pee" they secrete uric acid in there poop. A seagull, after eating a big ol fat, acidic fish ..... stores up poop till it sees my white FR-S and lets go ...... SPLAT!

I’m sorry …… it’s been a slow day here in Puyallup……
