Imagine a wreck like this, do you think the placement would make sense, and would anyone be able to reach it? -alex |

I am never in favour of mounting anything like that in the cabin of a street driven car. Unless the placement and bracket system have been properly crash tested I would be more concerned about the thing becoming a missile in the event of a crash then how available it is for use. These types of devices should always be mounted in the trunk and away from occupants. If there is no time to grab an extinguisher from a trunk mount then it is going to be of little or no value to you anyway.

There is plenty of room behind the seat for the bracket and an extinguisher and it is easy to access. If the seat is 100% in its backwards position, then yes you may need to grab the handle, slide the passenger seat forward slightly first, HOWEVER it is still quicker than accessing the trunk (which will be jammed shut if you've been rear-ended anyway) AND its better than not having one at all. Trust me ... Once you've witnessed your first car fire, you'll wish you had one. Now make that x 5 and you will get why I won't drive a car without one. |

Chances are if you are in an accident, you are rear ended and the trunk is jammed ... Now how to you get it? Or the fire starts in the trunk if you have car audio components back there or the battery, as in the case of my Camaro ... Or perhaps you are stuck in the passenger compartment with the doors jammed shut ... And there is a fire. Yes , I get your concern re it becoming a projectile, however when the bracket is installed as per the instructions, it is as secure as the seats themselves. I have shown it to professional race car drivers, mechanics and even mechanical engineers, and the first thing they do is grab it and try and move it ... Every single one of them has said something along the lines of "man that thing is solid ... It's not going anywhere". I'd be more concerned with having a loose iPhone, iPad or laptop bag flying around the car. Each to their own I guess ... But the pros of having it out way the cons immeasurably in my opinion. |

Again, you have not convinced me that the rear mounting position is of any benefit versus mounting in a trunk other than accessibility in a serious accident. -alex |

"other than accessibility in a serious accident" Seriously?????? ... Ummmmm ... yep .... that would be reason enough for me. I have sold them to FRS drivers who have installed them behind the seat. They are extremely happy with them there. If you don't like the idea ... then please, feel free not to buy one and not to mount it there. BTW ... here is one such install, with the seat back where the owner of the car wanted it.

What is worse in an accident? A knocked out passenger from the airbag that is unable to move the seat to access the fire extinguisher, or the same fire extinguisher mounted in the trunk? The picture you posted is fine, but what you are not mentioning is that in order for you to access that spot without tilting the passenger seat forward, the seat needs to be in a position that is more forward than what the driver's side seat is normally at. It is an important disclaimer that needs to be mentioned if you want your product to be successful. -alex |

Alex I certainly don't mind constructive criticism ... trust me ... I'm my own hardest critic, however I would like you to actually see one installed and see how easy it is to access first hand, like I have, before making judgement. That's all. Fair? |

I even made it easier to grab by just leaving it on the floor instead of on a bracket, and it took a shorter time to get out of the car and unbolting it instead of reaching over and attempting to grab it. Again: I am merely pointing out/disputing the fact that installation of this behind the front seats in the FRS/BRZ will require restrictions to front seat usage (if providing a clear path to access the fire extinguisher), or otherwise it will require sliding/tilting forward of the front seat to access it. -alex |

As far as electronics in the trunk sure that may be a very minor consideration and such an unusual circumstance that I would not rate them high on a hazard assessment. If the trunk is buckled then sure you can't access it but how about a frontal with all the airbags deployed or even better a side impact that wedges it in there (best case scenario since worst means it propels it at the driver). If the car containing the extinguisher is involved in an accident so bad that you can't get it out of the trunk the odds are the driver is in no shape to be using it anyway. I can not think of one single valid reason why you need to access it from the drivers seat. Oh and by the way I have carried a 5 pound extinguisher on a normal clamp mount ($4) in my trunk for 30 years now and have never once needed to use it.

I think it depends on track use or street use. I agree ... track ... front ... street ... more out of the way is better. |
