Besides poor corrosion prevention practices this is why you see rust under paint.
Ding ding ding! Someone knows a thing or two about cathodic protection?

Although, an adequate coating, and a good CP system will delay the inevitable for a long, long time.

Did you coat the inside of the header as well? Does the slip joint fit back okay? I've read some people don't coat the slip joint area because the coating might be too thick to put back together.

i don't believe the guy coated the inside of the slip joint area for that exact reason. There should be no problems with corrosion there or the salt hitting that area. I can probably have them coat that area, it is just going to cost extra. The rough cost for the black Cerakote is going to be roughly $120 for the headers.

I do too. It was driving me nuts thinking there was a leak somewhere, but after checking several times and not finding one I've gotten used to it. Still sounds awesome

I have the same sound. Just installed Gruppe-s UEL header yesterday, and I would describe the sound as less 'wooshy', and a bit more rough. Almost like a rasp, but at the same time, almost like sand flying around in the pipe. Kind of a gritty sound. It only happens on acceleration, and it just sounds out of place. It has a 'ticking' sound, but difficult to describe further. I've done some forum research, and I would say that this is normal. It looks like plugging the sound tube or adding header wrap may deaden the sound, but header wrap can subject the header to more heat over time, taking away from useful life. Just FWIW

I've gotten rid of the sound tube. I guess it's just the design. I can kinda see how you describe it as a rasp. It just sounds airy almost like my airbox isn't completely shut and sealed. As soon as I realized it's not actually leaking anywhere I accepted it haha.

I have double checked for leaks on mine, and nothing has changed! The swoosh/air/brustle sound is normal!

Offical Gruppe-S UEL Header Install & Review Thread

I wrapped mine and the noise I'm getting is at the catless front pipe. Going to swap with a resonated catless front pipe to see if it quiets it down. just got tuned yesterday and the torque curve is so flat!

Dyno chart in this thread.
