Trackday Bro
1) Brake pads for track ($300) 2) TRD Strut Tower Brace ($350) 3) TRD Door Stabilizers ($200) ---------------------------------------- 4) Trackday x 8 ($2400) Lots more fun and you will get to enjoy the car. #1 can be an expensive proposition but save you money in the long run. The stock pads are good for about 1 trackday and can end up destroying your rotors (ask me how I know). Race pads won't do that. I own #2 and #3 and can attest to their ability to "tighten up" the handling of the car without sacrificing ride quality. Once you get into stiffer springs you are going to lose some ride quality, which I'm not a fan of. |

I'd spend 1k in cosmetics. Lip, tailights, splitter, or something...
1k on herbs 1k save for emergencies and you never know 1k on a roadtrip with friends. Or.... 4k I'd buy a AE86 again! Maybe save towards a Venza for family.

Forget the plane, he has a new car! He should save half of it for emergencies or maybe the Phantom ESC, and the other 2K would make for a fun road trip. |

you dont need wider wheels/tires, you need stickier tires and lighter wheels.

The FRS is paid for in full and title is in hand. The $4K is really gravy money right now (yep, already funding my retirement, have a savings safety net, take a nice yearly vacation, etc). I have had great input from the group and appreciate all of the ideas to think about. I will definitely be putting some leather in the car and attempting to find a nice looking set of aftermarket wheels that save a little weight and throw some stickier tires on them (the wheel and tire thread on this board is phenomenal...thank you for that). I'd like to fill out those wheel wells just a tad (maybe 1/2"). I'm still thinking about suspension and stiffening. However, as several members have pointed out I've only had the car for a few weeks, I'll probably drive it for awhile before doing anything. That is good advice. Thanks to you all.

The car is pretty good from the get go. It could use a few small things here and there, depending on what your goals are, but I would stick to some pretty basic things right now.
MTEC shift springs- $20 (big improvement) Whiteline Shifter Bushing- $20 (another big improvement) Some better bite from upgraded brake pads wouldn't hurt but they aren't necessary, unless you plan on some track time. I would wait until you figure out what you want from the car in terms of looks and power before you start really modifying things. Otherwise, you'll just have to turn around and sell stuff and will have wasted time and money. Maybe take a ride in a few cars with different setups: something that's N/A with the basic bolt-one (header, exhaust, tune), and maybe another with some sort of forced induction. That way you don't spend $2,000 doing an N/A setup just to realize you aren't happy with it and have to sell off half the parts. You just got the car though so I would honestly just wait a little bit. After some time, you'll discover things that you want to change/add or that you don't like that can be solved with aftermarket items. Don't just blindly modify because you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Wait it out. Do it once. Do it right.

But if you're confident you just want to tighten up the handling and fill the torque dip, here's how I'd spend $4k: 1) Borla UEL header - $650 2) Drop-in filter - $50 3) Custom tune - $700 4) Michelin Pilot Super Sport 225/45/17 - $600 5) TSW Nurburgring 17x8 - $1000 6) Front camber bolts - $20 7) Performance alignment - $100 8) Stoptech brake pads - $110 9) ATE type 200 brake fluid - $20 Total: $3250 Then use the rest on track days and having fun.

spend a weekend at the track, buy an extra set of tires and save the rest, then as you save and get more money, invest in more track time. Mods are useless unless you have skills to back them up.
