It's probably not that easy since there's a significant price difference between the two

That price difference is roughly the same for manual transmission gt and gts, so I doubt it would be super expensive

I'm guessing that the trans module would need to be re-configured for paddle shifters which would probably require downloading a vin specific configuration file, that's the tough part

The TCU would be exactly the same as it takes the EXACT same inputs whether it's GT/GTS or whether it's shifter/paddles. All the paddles do is perform the exact same function as the shifter in M. I think you'd just need the wheel and maybe a loom from a GTS. If you're lucky the loom might already be in the GT column. Contact Kalen Gray and see if he has any AT wrecks.
Best case is you remove the wheel and find 2 more pins on the column side of the cruise control plug that aren't on the wheel side. Worst case you need to get a whole column and run wires to piggyback on to the 2 switches in the floor shifter.

Real reply here.
I purchased a set of paddles for my manual gts for my planned air shifter. The wiring is there it plugs straight in. It is just the back plastic piece for the steering wheel not a complete replacement. Standard computer i dont know about. I have the motec installed. Sent from my SM-N915G using Tapatalk |

So I removed the airbag to have a look and it seems as sirro said that the holes to mount the paddles are already there (red circles) and the 4 pins connector to the paddle is there too (blue circles).
![]() Here is a photo of the paddles connector that match the connector I have on my wheel: ![]() Are those paddles simple on/off switches? If so I could try to short the connector to simulate the paddle and see if the electronic is working before buying the paddles. |

If i was in the country i would check for you. But i am willing to bet they are just momentary switches.
I think the only problem you may run into is software. But if i was toyota id make one software for both and just have the paddles trigger the same circuit for shift up / down. I picked my paddles up off ebay. 115$ buyout within a few hours of listing....took a long time for them to show up. Last edited by sirro; 07-18-2015 at 10:38 AM. |

From the repair manual, it seems that the paddles are simple switches:
![]() ![]() Bellow 1 Ohm when the switch in pulled means a simple short is required to trigger the speed change |

Ebay seller was andrew86car
private seller. Probably a part out car he was doing. Just listed as toyota 86 / brz auto shift paddles. I search all the time for items like that. Only works if you aren't in a hurry. Sent from my SM-N915G using Tapatalk Last edited by sirro; 07-18-2015 at 10:35 AM. |
